Arsenal the real test for Depay

Agreed. Hopefully he has the confidence and arrogance to kick on against Bellerin, a very good RB (Barca bound when Alves retires).

The piece of skill he did was outrageous, in any match.

He's not very good.

agreed with you rob, i've been critical of Depay but he was immense last night.

But we've had too many false dawns with him - amazing potential but has to realise it.

On sunday he doesnt need to bring out the tricks or even have a 10/10 performance. A solid display with him doing his defensive duties and creating a couple of chances would do.

He is simply amazing or awful - no middle ground.

Bellerin can be go at one on one.

He is just so quick that he is able to recover when in dangerous positions

The consistent thing about young players is inconsistency.

Wenger would have watched that match and will set up to do a job on him. It would be unfair to judge him for his performance against Arsenal

"20 league games with just 2 goals and zero assists."

Really? Thought he hit the post against Southampton and Depay turned it in?

I like how the 20 league games is just thrown in without highlighting how many were starts and sub appearances

The only thing yesterday's game showed was where memphis needs to go and play to be good.

Funny eh?

Real stats for his season are:

Starts: 20
Subs: 11
Goals: 5
Assists: 1

Still not great mind.

I think the freedom to do so too.

Bad as he has been, I don't think he's been allowed to shoot from 25 yards, to get balls into the box early or take on his defender when he fancies it.

Looks like he's been playing within himself, be it a confidence thing or a instructions I don't know.

Two goals and no assists in 12 starts and 8 sub appearances.

Not great..not to mention some of the worst stats in the league for losing the ball.

He was good last night but its no stretch to say he's been awful. Hopefully he improves but we expected a lot more from him this season

Yeah but you mention 20 starts, 45% of which were from the bench.

Yes, this was the same impassioned way you defended Fellaini who was worse than dogsht when he joined.

Agreed - the skills shown were amazing. BUT...Is he the type of player who only plays well with confidence and only gets that confidence if the fullback against him is a dustbin and he has no defensive duties to perform?

I think it's no coincidence that his two best performances have been last night and against the really week Bruges team at OT. In the league, he's been the worst winger I've seen at United in 40 years.

Its different though. Fellaini was a proven PL player so you thought eventually it would come. The Dutch league is worse and who knows if Depay will be any good.

Besides where am I saying Depay is someone we should sell now? I have faith in him. But he has been awful this season.

So Fellaini was proven in the prem but was dogsht and had even worse stats but was supported.

Yet a young lad from a different league was expected to hit the ground running

Its not make or break though is it. If he doesn't do it on Sunday then he'll just be thought of as an inconsistent player. If he turns up then it might be a game where people really start to believe in him.

I doubt he reads forums so not sure about the pressure you talk of
