If Leicester do it and win the title

for a one off achievement yes I'd agree but for long term success fergie will always be the don.

Fergies treble and the invincible s still take some beating, but it would certainly be in this conversation.

but it's a far greater achievement than anything Jose ever did in England, no doubt about that.

While it would be a great achievement don’t agree that it would represent the greatest feat in the PL.

There have been better sides than Leicester that failed to win the PL in years gone past.

Again while a great achievement, Leicester's success reflects the overall poor quality of the league at the moment.

Disagree that that's relevant, Stuart Pearce. Ultimately, winning the league with the level of resources and size of club Leicester are would be monumental. It's much, much more significant for me than if say, Southampton had turned their run of form in the first half of last season into a successful title challenge. A solid top half team winning the title? A freak, but fair enough. A team that completed arguably the greatest relegation comeback in Prem History to win the title the following season, after a change of manager? Incredible.

As a one off achievement it is certainly in the ball park but talking in overall terms he'd have a long way to go to catch Wenger let alone Fergie for me.

I think LCFCs season can be a lesson for other clubs.

Like would allardyce or Pulis play Mahrez? Or even sign him?

They spend all their time focusing on being compact, hard to beat etc. LCFC have that solid base but were brave enough to bring in some technical players who take risks, just look at the stats for them giving the ball away, they are always at it but they keep trying to take the risk, play the pass and it's clearly working.

Maybe instead of a focus on defensive solidity other clubs may start to try emulate LCFC and take them risks.

I hope they do makes for a far more interesting league.

I’m not claiming it would not be enormous, as it clearly would be. Just not the greatest single achievement in the history of the league as the OP suggests.

Eh? Not only would it be the greatest achievement in premier league history, it would be the greatest achievement in premier league history BY FAR

Leicester winning it would be easily the greatest achievement, can't think of anything that comes close.. even them getting top 4 would be one of the best achievements.

What

I'd agree with you if they were smashing up the top 4 but they aren't they're competing with Spurs for the title. It's very impressive but it's not the best, for starters everyone else is making it pretty easy for them!

For me Wenger's unbeaten season is still top, followed by United's treble season and Chelsea's 95-point season.

Not sure how can you put the unbeaten season above the Treble....

Greatest achievement. Yeah, sure.

Greatest manager? Nah.

Arsenal going unbeaten with that team is far far less difficult to achieve for a manager than winning the league with Leicester City surely?

posted on 4/3/16

In United's treble year they put Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool out of the cup and we're also drawn in the same group as Bayern and Barca in the CL, and had to beat Inter and Juve before downing Bayern in the final. It really was an unbelievable achievement.

Leicester's on a stand alone basis would arguably be up there with it though, with all factors considered

posted on 4/3/16

It's a rare achievement in Europe let alone England were it is a complete one off.

posted on 4/3/16

Talking of unbeaten runs which is better Arsenals unbeaten league season or United going unbeaten in the champs league for nearly 2 years only losing to Barca in the final.

If they manage it, it would undoubtedly be the 2nd greatest achievement of the premier league era, just behind Brendan Rodgers' heroic Liverpool side finishing 2nd in 13-14.

What about Redknapp getting Spur's into the Champions League only to find out that they hadn't got into the Champions League

To be honest, never been a fan of these kind of achievement contests. They are all notable in their own right. A bit like the Messi/Ronaldo debates. It simply comes down to individual preference.

If some believe Leicester winning the league (which I don’t think they will) is the greatest achievement in PL history, so be it. My personal choice would be the Invincibles, or the United treble wining side.

In fairness I think a decent majority say Messi these days.
