Arsenal players struggle to take 26 steps without getting a career threatening injury

Did he do it in 6 inch heels though?

Then I'd be impressed

Not been watching but didn't his medics ask him to stop for a day?

Eddie Izzard, a man that is prepared to go for through the pain barrier for the cause, unlike the namby pamby footballers, that think playing 90 minutes football once a week is somehow ground breaking.

He's doing 27 marathons in 27 days, each marathon representing a year for Nelson Mandela's imprisonment

He's taking one day off part way through and running a double marathon on the last day

Compare his times at the first marathon and last. I suspect you'll see a significant drop off, as you would if these 'Namby Pamby' footballers played every game.

Just because they're still running, doesn't mean they're doing it well.

I am into walking myself, regularly do a 12 miler, even at 67, I find it very therapeutic. I have been doing it for the past 40 years, plenty of 150 mile jaunts under my belt back in the day. I love hill walking.

Amazing effort from Izzard.

Any other runners here? I've never done a full marathon, quite a few halves. My best ever running effort was the 2010 Leeds Abbey Dash, did 10k in just over 37 minutes, I was on fire. My first son was born a few weeks later and I did the following year in 42 minutes! Would be satisfied with 45 now, not sure I'd even get that.

Used to do the Athletics at my peak could run 5.5miles in 28mins30s. At 17/18 I was running 10k in morning and 10k in evening plus gym work. Coach was going mental saying I was overdoing it. By 19 I wasn't able to walk more than 100 yards without mymy kneecap dislocating and me having to pop it back in. My coach was 100% correct.

The concept of injury resistance and the importance of it shouldn't be downplayed. The way Russian cyclists are picked is akin to throwing eggs at a wall and taking the ones that don't break. I'm not sure Spurs should adopt this approach for youth development.

That's not what he was saying the other day. Apparently your body becomes accustomed to the task after 10 or so days and it is actually getting easier. I think he also said that he is running faster than he was at the start.

Doing a full marathon in October. Bit of a jump from the 14km fun run which is currently the most I've done....
If Eddie Izzard can smash through 27 consecutively then I've got a bit of hope

I'm probably older than most on here (except Sandy as he's an old bu**er). I'm nearly 50 and still happy to run 5-10k every morning (6 days a week) followed by some weights and an hour of CV training a few evenings every week.
Just about anyone can do it if they really want to.
