To think that there are people who expect Tottenham to finish above us.
Tut, tut, tut.
While it seems like AW’s reign is coming to an end, there are misconceptions in regard to the club’s business strategy during the Emirates project years.
Arsenal were financially inhibited, and were unable to compete in the transfer market. AW had to use player trading as a way to balance the books. Each year an established player (or two) had to be sold. The team was in constant transformation. The club accounts support this view.
http://www.arsenal.com/the-club/corporate-info/arsenal-holdings-financial-results
To offset, the club sought to bring in younger (undeveloped) players with sell on value. “Project Youth” as it was known. The downside to this were the wages the club had to pay were somewhat above market value. It was a calculated risk. But one the club had to implement, as wages were spread over the duration of the contract, and therefore easier for the club to absorb.
For fans to point the finger at AW, (for 9/10 trophy-less years) is not a reflection of what actually transpired. During this time, AW was approached by PSG, Munich, and Real Madrid, (amongst others) and could have joined any of them, won silverware, while earning considerably more money. And also with vast wealth at his disposal to spend on players. Yet he remained loyal to Arsenal and helped mould the long term future of the club.
Whatever your current opinion of AW may be, the guy deserves tremendous respect for what he has done for the club.

"expecting the biggest trophies year in year out regardless of the situation."
What's the 'situation' this year then? Leicester winning the league?

How is Leicester winning the league relevent?
Chelsea, City, Liverpool, and Man United are all also below them in the table. They have been the best team, this year.

I'm not justifying this season, it'll be inexcusable if we don't win the league this year, but we don't have a divine right to win the league every year - all I expect really is for us to compete for the league every year and by that I don't mean 8 points off the top in March.
The way THE GOONER comes across I get the impression he thinks we're like a Bayern or Barca where we should expect to win the league and get to the final of the CL every year.

Don't you know the rules. Leicester are allowed to outperform every single premier league team without comment but if it happens to be arsenal the team is an embarrassment the manager should be sacked and fans should revolt.
Arsenal have had less stick this season than Chelsea. That tells you everything you need to know

Well, all of those clubs bar Liverpool are or are highly likely to be changing manager next season due to the dissatisfaction of their seasons. Should Wenger get off scot free though, especially as this isn't the only season where we've capitulated in embarrassing fashion?
Plus, the key factor now for me isn't all about winning the league. Since the purse strings have loosened it's been about progressing as a team. For example, are we any better than last season? No we're worse. Are we better than we were two seasons ago? No we're worse. How long do you allow for stagnating or even going backwards? In your eyes Wenger should have a job for life because he achieved great things many years ago and anyone who dares to want a change is an embarrassment.

I think (unless there is an almighty collapse) AW is going to remain at the club. Whatever fan opinion may be.
I agree with your comments but I believe the majority of fan anger should be directed at KSE. We can only speculate into the inner workings of the club but throughout KSE’s sports portfolio, they have continually failed to invest – or invested the bare minimum. Which suggests to me AW (noting his frugality) is not being given all the resource at the club’s disposal.
In any event, we’ll probably only ever find out when one, or both parties have moved on…
"How is Leicester winning the league relevent?

I knew someone would make this statement.
In fact, that is the same comment Wenger will make. 100%.
I do not care about all those other teams. I care about Arsenal. Why are you ok with failure?
Leicester have taken advantage of all the other teams' failings.
This was our season to do it. Should have been. No excuses.

You have upheld my argument. In that what Leicester do, or do not do, has nothing to do with AW, or Arsenal.
