He committed enough fouls to get sent off 3 times today. Bullied our defence? Yes by playing against the laws of the game
You don't have to beat Carroll in the air to stop him. Other teams don't. Deny him the service of crosses put in under no pressure, put one man to jump with him and the other to win the second ball. Carroll can bully defences, but only if you let him. If you frustrate him he quickly loses interest.
Well it was easily predictable, don't think the manager expected him to start
I agree. We have quality there but so many teams can bully us. Even if it goes against the law of the game like the Donkey today you still need to show your man enough to stand up to it across the park. We don't have any players like that.
Our defense is a big problem and I'll say it again, Gabriel is a liability.

Correction - he only bullies defences when the refs let him play outside the laws of the game but doesnt let your defenders respond in kind
It is all about the basics of defending. As long as our wide players do not prevent crosses, we will get bullied.
All of their goals were from facking crosses. Why don't they learn from their mistakes ffs! If you see someone like Carroll playing, you try to prevent them from crossing the ball as much you can. I just knew as soon as they scored their first goal were going to crumble.
I KNOW Carroll continually fouls - but the reality is that referees give him a high degree of latitude and you've got to be able to deal with it if you want to win titles - we can't.
Yes you want to cut down the service he gets - and we did that to an extent early on - but the idea that you are going to be able to do that for a whole game when playing away is unrealistic.
Lack of basic defending. I don't know how many goals Gabriel has to donate. Man U goals, Bayern, and others i cant recall.
Until Carroll got the first goal we were denying him service and he wasn't involved. But as soon as he got one we stopped doing the basics and panicked, and West Ham just knew to hang it up to him. It's switching off, giving away the first goal, that gives Carroll the confidence to score the others.
Until Carroll got the first goal we were denying him service and he wasn't involved.
