Awful again today. But so was Monreal.
Gabriel has been given a run in the team and not shown anything to suggest he should be a long term partner for Koscielny. Better off with Chambers, tbf.
Nacho is another who struggles with physical players
I think as a player he's very promising. There seems to be a lack of coordination between our CBs though, and I wonder if that's down to poor communication. I think that's the real value of Mertesacker and Cech - Merte is not the best CB technically, but he tells the defenders when to go and when to stay, and it makes a huge difference.
Look at Leceister's defence this year. Individually those CBs aren't all that, but their communication and knowing exactly what their jobs are makes all the difference.
Gabriel had a good game against Lukaku though.... He is still an improvement over Mertesacker. Nacho struggles too, but proabaly less than Gibbs....
Gabriel has been shocking with both Per and Cech in the team. Not really a substantial arguement, tbf.
How is Gabriel and improvement on Per?
Guy had been dreadful.
Gabriel is psychologically weak, as in he gets played by other defenders too easily. He needs to be mentored by Per the rock.
We waste so much time on players that just aren't up to it. Gabriel is awful and I'd rather see Chambers given a go.
What has per actually done to not be playing?
If per had been putting in poor performances time and time again like Gabriel he would have been hounded out of the club
I agree I would rather start chambers if per isn't going to start
How many goals has Gabriel scores for the opposition via deflections and own goals?
We need to sell Per and just buy Hummels for £30 Mil.
I initially had very high hopes for Gabriel - but positionally he is poor, he doesn't communicate well, he is also impulsive and hot-headed and seems to lack nous - I'm not sure you can fix all of those problems
Let's call a spade a spade here; he's sh-t. Another in a long line of Wenger's cheap options.

According to a lot of people on here you're either sh*t or brilliant, there is no in between. Gabriel is a decent player, he was highly rated at Villereal for a reason. Playing at CB for Arsenal is not an easy job. You don't have much help from your midfield. You come into a team that gets the jitters when defending a narrow lead. Players switch off when defending for some reason.
Calum Chambers had a few good games to start with. Everyone on here said he was a potential world beater. Then he had a few poor games, particularly against Montero vs Swansea. All of a sudden he was garbage.
Now, he's brilliant again? No, he's a young promising CB, who has good and bad games, same as Gabriel. The reason it's so hard for us to sign this mythical CB that will come in and fix all our problems is that there are very few complete CBs who are willing to come and play for Arsenal - the best ones play for the very top teams, and there aren't many around.
There are some issues with our squad, but by and large the players are good enough to challenge for the league. The problem is how they are used.
I think this also shows Wenger up badly against Bilic.
It was obvious that Carroll was the 'go-to man' against Arsenal for any manager who is smart - everybody except Wenger seems to have known this is was what Bilic was likely to do as Arsenal have shown vulnerability to rough-housing in the box.
Mertesacker would have been a better match-up against Carroll - he is a better organiser than Gabriel, he is positionally better and he makes it harder for Carroll in the air. I'm not saying Mertesacker would be perfect because he is not aggressive enough but Carroll doesn't score a hattrick if Mertesacker plays.
Of course Mertesacker is slooow but so is Carroll so it wouldn't matter so much.

Whiny.
Gabriel is like Phil Jones, but without the injuries.
he's pretty crap, chambers is better
Said for a long time that he has not looked the part and that Per is a better player. However it doesn't help that Koscielny has probably had his worst season for us since his first
He put the ball into our own net twice today.
Bad luck or not, he just doesn't get the job done.
