You wrote more than one sentence, well done Chameleon

I agree, he looks so heavy on his feet and at this moment in time. Regardless we look much better as a team when we have the two energised strikers playing together, Kuyt and Suarez.

Do you think that Kenny is such an idiot that he bought Carroll for pace? What is it with people nowadays that a player instantly becomes useless when he isn't Linford Christie and instantly becomes world class when he is?

Carroll's game is not about pace. It is about holding the ball up, hassling defenders and bullying them, creating space for other players and getting goals. The goals haven't quite come yet but he has barely played. He is being nursed back to tip-top condition and then he will be expected to produce.

Give the lad some time and confidence. Also remember how young he is. He is already a threat and a disturbance for defenders now, think what he'll be like in a few years, with experience.

We're three games in. Patience.

He was on the bench Vs Bolton as they can handle strength and height, not pace... Simple really!

No Carroll really hasn't been as big of a disappointment as people make out. People are only judging him to his inflated price tag, and not to what he actually brings to the team.

For a start he was injured for much of the time we had him last season (yet still scored more goals than a fit Torres I might add!).

In pre-season he looked to be getting back to full fitness and while he has only scored once in a mighty huge amount of 3 games for Liverpool this season, he has had two disallowed for apparent 'pushing', with one very dubious.

Besides the goals strikers are judged on (Torres are you listening?!!) Carroll is part of a team that is pretty new and is going to take time to gel. It will take time to understand the runs and clever interchange from the likes of Downing and Suarez, and for him to ensure he is in the right position to capitalise.

Also what Carroll does is a lot of off the ball work that people forget, which is to use his stature to draw defenders out and create space for the likes of Suarez and Kuyt to get into.

The only thing he is slightly letting himself down with so far is to be a bit more lively around the 6 yard box, but I expect that to improve as he gets to know his team-mates intentions better.

I think the price tag has been the issue with most critics. He is not worth it, it was due to circumstances. In terms of quality, he is 22 and just a season in the pl(mostly injured). He may pull it off or fail of which like every manager: sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong!

What are you talking about? (OP) It's few games to the season and he's already scored, almost twice!

Why do Chelsea fans seem intent on trying justify the purchase of Torres who as it currently stands, is the worst pound for pound signing in entire history of the English game, by comparing him to Andy Carroll?

Carroll has scored this season and has had one disallowed goal harshly ruled out. He is a young lad that needs to improve, especially his reading of the game and his positional sense.

At £35m he is definitely way over priced, but he has time on his side and will improve. The fact he was benched doesn't bother me one iota. His style is ill suited to some games where speed and quickness will be a more potent weapon. In away games where the ball needs to be held up he will also be a valueable member of the team, also against CB's who won't relish a physical battle he should start.

chelsea fan he hasnt played half the games and atleast he scores goals and wins balls.

he could do with conditioning himself, cut out that pie chips and gravy and 4 pints at half time and he could be great.

powerful player with a deadly finish, closest thing to shearer yet, but he needs to improve agreed a flop ? well too early to say in his 5year contract.

Well said mate I have been saying the same thing to the liverpool fans at work, they just think i have a downer on him.
I was saying to them when he plays you dont always attack with the same pace and movement as you did at the weekend.
And I also thought you had a better shape without him.

Its early days yet tho, your looking good.

just dont think anyone has learnt how to play off him yet, maybe gerrard will come back and show them how?

fingers crossed anyway, if things dont improve we can always sign nolan! he knows how to work off him pretty well.

He's a pansy for such a big guy.

Aslong as he plays crap and we will keep on winning i dont care if hes the worst football signing in history but currently thats left to Torres

posted on 2/9/11

patience!

he'll come good, just needs to get used to the style of play kenny and steve want. it'll be good for him to learn how to play on the deck instead of expecting endless amounts of crosses he can get his head on

young lad, still developing, plenty of potential

I bet you wouldn't say that to his face. So easy to criticise from behind a computer screen.

As others have stated Carroll is still very young for a forward. If he was a winger or a striker (like Owen) then you tend to be better when you are younger, but big centre forwards tend to get better with age, and Carroll will be no exception.

I don't know there has been some other shockers.

Veron, Shevchenko, Kezman...hold on there seems to be a trend going on here!!

Meireles to? you heard it here first he will be a huge flop.. First and foremost will he track back and help out? does Torres?.Football as we know is all about attacking and defending..

posted on 2/9/11

Far too early to label him a flop, we didn't buy the finished article, we bought a work in progress. We overpaid for that, but as long as you can afford it (which with £50m in the bank we could), then it doesn't matter how much he cost.

By the end of his contract, he should look like a £35m player, or near it. If he doesn't, then he would have flopped.

Torres is not comparable, because Torres is meant to be the finished article, he is meant to be one of the best strikers in the world, and he has still been WORSE than Carroll, who is only meant to be a promising young striker.

So far Carroll has underperformed, I don't think many fans would deny that, but he has been injured and in that time too.

Torres has been terrible, and has not been injured in his whole time at Chelsea and was not injured in the 4 months before his move either when he was also terrible (apart from one game against, funnily enough, Chelsea).

Will Carroll come good? Who knows, but if I was betting on one of the two to come good, it certainly wouldn't be Torres at this stage.
