He also states quite explicitly he will signing a striker
If there's any proof out there that our manager has mental disease or arrogant then you know the anwer.
We won't buy any CF just forget the summer, we will not sign anyone, Gabriel and Chambers will be oir defensive pair next season and Ramsey and Theo will renew their contract and Welbeck will be our new January signing.
I am nor renewing until the man retires or resigns or we win CL.
I am genuinely staeting to think Wenger has dementia. The main symptom being old memories are like yesterday but there is no recall of recent events.
Simmer down guys. When you analyse what Wenger has said it actually makes perfect sense. First of all from the information that he has released we can presume two things:
1) Giroud will still be at Arsenal at the beginning of the next season.
2) Wenger intends to sign a new striker.
To me, it makes sense to start with Giroud as he knows the league and should therefore start the season and that even if Wenger signed Messi, it would be good management to give him a few games to acclimatise himself with his new team and the conditions of the premier league. After that point it is down to each individual to fight for their places...including Giroud
Words don't matter anyway.
No chance is Wenger going to upset the boat and say Giroud will be dumped as soon as he seals the signing of a new striker.
Nor is he going to lead Arsenal fans to think we are going to sign a top class striker who will go straight into the team - he has experience of failure in achieving this goal.
At the end of the day, his words in May on transfers mean nothing.
Yeah as DJ said. Basically Not worth getting worked up about anything he says about next season and transfers.
Any Manager when asked would say a similar thing. It's not a given we will sign a striker, and he needs to show his players he has faith in them and motivate them. Not many managers would say no to a question like that. Also will want to keep his cards close to his chest. Even if we had already signed a striker. He may still say a similar thing, would be up to the new signing to prove he should be first choice. As things stand Giroud is our first choice.
Having said that. Of course won't be surprised if Giroud is still out first choice striker next season!
...and another thing you need to think about is what did you expect Wenger to say when asked if he expected Giroud would be his main striker next season. If Wenger had said Giroud would not be his main striker, this news would inevitably unsettle Girould with the all the unpredictable consequences.

You lot do this every flipping year though.
Bemoan those that are worried about Wenger's OWN quotes and say it means nothing or it's too early then deadline day comes and we're there knowing we should've taken his words more seriously.
Ideally yes it should just be meaningless words but we know Wenger well enough, every chance we don't sign a CF and allow Giroud/Theo to compete again.
He has tried to sign strikers (badly). This time there is literally no leeway. I think he's willing to 'overpay' this time.

Then why are you not concentrating on Wengers words where he says he will be buying a striker?
Either take all his words at face value or ignore everything he says!!
Picking and choosing sections of his comments makes no sense.
I think everyone he says will now be dissected and analysed until he signs Soloman Kalou....
