Blyth Spartans v Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski

Blyth Spartans
Buffon, Calabria, Silva, Rugani, Yedlin, Motta (Mauri), De Rossi, Cataldi (Lapadula), Munir, Carroll (Sadiq), Aarons

Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski
Mannone, Bellerin , Gabriel (Akpom), Terry, Vermaelen, Enrique, Hoffmann, De Jong, Morrison, Odegaard, Welbeck

It’s been a slow burner this season for sure but Blyth Spartans are finally off the mark.

It’s never easy of course to get past Willy’s Double Decker Bus, but the Poles are definitely much more effective in terms of keeping their opposition at bay at home than they are when away from their home fortress.

It took a while to come, but when Dyskobolia changed their shape in the second half, it let in big Andy Carroll to take his chances. Although he was cruelly denied a potential hat-trick by being subbed after netting 2 outstanding headers in the space of 5 mins

Final Score: Blyth Spartans 2-0 Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski
Blyth Scorers: Carroll x 2 (Yedlin with an assist for both goals)
MOTM: Carroll

Forres Mechanics v Tatung Football Club

Forres Mechanics
Bentley, Holding, Barzagli, Wallace, Jackson, Grujic, Kante , Alli (Cook), Asensio, Gabriel, Ibrahimovic

Tatung Football Club
Reina, Simpson, Gomez, Dante, Duarte, Alonso, Thomas, Oztunali (Traore ), Coke , Mahrez, Origi

Forres surely amongst the pre-season favourites, whilst Tatung were a late but very welcome entry. Both teams have a really good blend of experience and youth and I’m expecting a close game on paper but with Forres having the clear advantage of being at home.

Another valuable home win for Forres as they continue to be one of the pacesetters, even though they were missing Neves, the qualities of Alli and Kante really shone though. No shame in this for Tatung who put in a really solid performance and very much look like they’re a team that can definitely start taking some wins.

Forres Mechanics 2-1 Tatung Football Club
Forres Scorers: Ibrahimovic x 2 (Alli with 1 Assist, Asensio with the other)
Tatung Scorer: Mahrez (Xabi Alonso)
MOTM: Alli

Juventus v Wellington Phoenix

Juventus
Bizzarri, Klostermann, Tah, Ayala, Fosu-Mensah, Drinkwater, Sanches, Coman, Boufal (Sensi ), Dembele , Aduriz

Wellington Phoenix
Howard, Jung, Bailly, Wimmer, Grimaldo, Elneny, Coquelin (Rabiot), Deulofeu, van der Vaart (Gray ), Iwobi, Rashford

I’m a massive fan of both of these managers in terms of their squad building and tactics, hence I always knew that this was going to be a very tight call. Juve’s home advantage should technically make them favourites, but they’re going to have be on their toes against the New Zealanders.

This game didn’t fail to live up to expectations, pretty much a classic and I’m already looking forward to the return fixture down under.

Juventus 3-2 Wellington Phoenix
Juventus Scorers: Aduriz x 2 (Dembele with 1 assist, Coman with the other), Coman (no assist)
Wellington Phoenix Scorers: Rashford (Deulofeu), Iwobi (van der Vaart)
MOTM: Coman

SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden v Edinburgh City

SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden
Alisson, Mayke , Salcedo, Reyes (Roca), Geferson, Danilo (Paulista ), Paredes, Arrascaeta, Pereiro, Jota , González (Martinez)

Edinburgh City
Gordon, Semedo, van Dijk, Denayer, Evra, McGregor (McLean), Wanyama, Roberts, Ghezzal (Walker),
Defoe (Silva), Vardy

After 2 draws in their first 2 matches Edinburgh head to the Netherlands in search of their first win. Whilst as Forres discovered last week there’s no such thing as an easy game away to Cambuur. The Dutch side always lay on a post-match finger buffet for the opposition, but that’s as welcoming as they get.

Cambuur are a young vibrant team – so much South American talent – and over the years I’m come to respect their ability to scout for the very best youngsters from that continent. Edinburgh’s front line are jam packed full of goals, and I’m such a massive fan of their back-line too.

Cambuur know how important it is they make pick up home wins and home advantage was the key aspect here. Edinburgh have now played twice away in 3 games and I expect their first win to come very soon.

Final Score: SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden 2-1 Edinburgh City
Cambuur Scorers: Reyes (Jota), González (no assist)
Edinburgh Scorer: Vardy (Roberts)
MOTM: Diego Reyes
