No mention of Steve Bruce? He might be the best English manager.

England have had a succession of failed or underachieving managers. You have to wonder is it the managers or is there something else facked up in the England set up.

We need to decide what we are.

1) If we accept that we are limited, almost always lose in major tournaments to the top sides, and are incapable of mimicking Spain/Germany/France/Whoever flavour of the month top side style is, then the candidates are Allardyce, Pulis, Pardew, Bruce.

Passionate Englishmen who play English style football with big strong centre halves, direct to pacy attackers and defend in an organised manner. They may be able to cause an upset with this style and get to a semi final somewhere.

2) If we don't accept the above and want to pretend we actually are a top table side capable of winning major tournaments with an expansive passing game then we need to appoint a foreigner, as none of the English candidates are remotely capable of delivering this aim (a foreigner likely wouldn't be either, but at least they would have the CV to suggest it's plausible).

Scottish manager 14 times
French manager 3 times
Portuguese manager 3 times
Italian manager 3 times
Even a Chilean manager once

It's shocking that an Englishman still hasn't won the EPL

Even 4 of the 5 titles before the start of the EPL were won by Scotsmen.

Why don't England produce top managers anymore? This has been an issue now for way too long. The FA needs to look at how it coaches managers.

Redknapp would be the best choice.

Rooney's hair piece or G-Nev's sister. Maybe Colin Salad if he keeps improving.

Who was the fella that pushed and got him in? Jimmy Armfield?

Only in this country would a genius like Clough have noses turned up against him

Graham Taylor <hangover >

Who was the long bal merchant who oversaw the technical side? Charlie Something?

Taylors number two was Laurie McMenemy

I wish I was England manager so I wouldn't pick any spurs players and play all the Arsenal players in those pointless friendlies so they got injured

I think Rodgers would make a great England manager. He'd get them playing the right way and has a good record of improving young players.

I hope this is a joke!

That is an interesting name, he looks to have had enough at hull. Has the experience and would stick to his guns.

the job pays very very well.

if and when roy hodgson goes the no 1 priority has to be to show the team hwo to defend as a team... not pick 50 players over a campaign then turn up and lose.

Its that simple who can give players confidence and organisation to go to a tournament and get to QF.

Over all eriksen and capello did that far better than roy or mcclaren.

There a really lack of very good coaches out there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see how Capello was any better than Hodgson.

That's the one. Bit young at the time to understand his role, but essentially he was a big fan of long ball football and implemented this in the training of coaching?

Hughes apparently studied hundreds of videos and concluded the most goals scored, involved 3 or less passes, hence the hoof ball tactics.

He would have loved some of today's managers
