Andrew Neville has all the negotiating skills of a breezeblock but I doubt it's come from him.
The 20% sell on fee is pretty standard for a selling club of a lower division. You have to remember that no one thought it possible that Vardy would reach the heights he did at the time.
Come November/December when this deal was thrashed out Vardy effectively had us over a barrel. The January window was looming and he was the best striker in the prem at that point. We needed to negotiate a new deal with him and he was handsomely rewarded
If the club had not gone with the release clause then negotiations would have broken down and clubs could have been alerted to the fact that Vardy had rejected a new deal. Cue pandomonium at a critical point of the season.
Players have all the power and clubs have very little these days when it comes to this kind of thing

Well the Mirror are now reporting the fee is actually "over £29 million" according to Ranieri in Gazzetta dello Sport.
Yep looks like it's £29m not the reported £22m

Will go with the manager of LCFC for now.
It's good that fleetwood put a decent sell on clause in the deal!
I think Ranieri's quoted number was in Euros.
And when quizzed about the transfer Gazzetta dello Sport say is worth as much as €38million (£29.8million) the Italian responded: "Yes, it's all true."
Fair enough. The quote I'd heard was €29m but I couldn't say exactly where it came from.
The new PL deal combined with Leicester winning the Prem means Leicester have just as much financial power as Arsenal also Wenger is notoriously stingy with wages, so wages would not be an issue.
-------------------------------------------
1) Even with Leicester winning the league, it was Arsenal that made a record £101m from centralised PL payments last season. Leicester were 5th with around 92m.
Not to mention that Arsenal's revenue is miles higher.
2) Wenger is stingy on transfer fees, but he's actually been reckless on wages.
Our last wage bill was £192m. City's was £193m. If I remember correctly; United around 200 & Chelsea 206. So Arsenal are competitive on wages.
The likes of Almunia, Squillachi, Denilson & Bendtner all made £50-65K p/w.
Vardy is at the very end of the peak of his career. Take the money and run, because in a year he won't be worth £5m and in two years won't be worth £1m.
Arsenal haven't a clue.
It's a really odd proposed deal. Bad for Leicester, bad for Arsenal, bad for Vardy. The only ones jumping around the room will be Fleetwood, as mentioned in the article.
It's a better deal for us than Arsenal.
Realistically what's our ambition next season? Top 8 and 3rd in our CL group would be considered a good season, I doubt we'll be top 4 and Vardy or not that probably won't change and nor should it.
Take the money and get someone younger and cheaper (and probably French)
Take the money give it all to Kante!
We got £8m for Kramaric, give that to Vardy and it's the same as Arsenal are reportedly offering.
One thing though, if we're offering £100k a week to Schmeichel then why not the rest of the team? Surely we can afford to pay that now so just pay it and keep this team together.
Vardy's pace, and Arsenal's terrible record with muscle injuries....a match made in heaven
Seems a very odd move from Vardy, a lot of upheaval when he could be handsomely paid where he is, playing for the champions, and in the CL, at a club where he is adored and undisputed #1
Yeah it's weird, they won't suit him at all and the only reason why he stays fit is because of our excellent sports science which Arsenal don't have. It will be a terrible move for him and a waste of money for Arsenal. If he moves there his career will nose dive and I'll have a good laugh at his demise.
Over rated, one trick pony, and a one season wonder about to go past his peak, take the money and run.

Why would you laugh at a players misfortune who won you the league? What Leicester did last season was amazing but you can't deny him his last chance to join a big club. It may not work out but if it did I would think you would be pleased for him given how much he has done for your club.
