Giroud does exactly as it says on the tin.
A sub £10 million striker from a different league, who hit the ground running and has maintained slightly more than 20 goals a season, across all tournaments.
He may not be at Aguero's level, but he's been reasonably consistent for us over the past 4 seasons.
His critics will have to aim their invective elsewhere.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
£12m and the point is 20 goals across all competitions is not good enough for the main striker at a club that wants to challenge for the league. We want someone wo can consistently get over 20 in the league alone.
Calls for a new striker are entirely justified.
Its very important to understand context when assessing statistics. We play in an open way that means we create a lot but as a consequence also concede a lot. So put Giroud in team like Leicester and they would finish mid table at best. 20 goals a season across all competitions is pretty poor if you consider the open football arsenal play and the quality of the supporting cast. Adebayor scored 30 goals, 24 goals in the league at Arsenal. What did he do at Man City or Spurs?
Calls for a more accomplished striker are perfectly reasonable.
What I don't get is the constant stream of negativity directed at Giroud. Like every striker, he needs all the confidence-boosting support he can get.
Like it or not strikers are face of the club. Its always been the most important position in football. This is why we remember Ian Wright, Bergkamp, Kanu, Henry, RVP. Most of us can name them.
Giroud is not new to Arsenal. He has been here for 4 years and we know his limitations. There are only two positions, goalkeeper and striker who can sink or carry a club. So obviously when we lose the league to a club like Leicester and the reason for that is the lack of goals scored, the striker should carry all the blame. In the past a player like Giroud would have been replaced after one season. So you have to wonder if Giroud is being selected for other reasons than merit. That only increases the frustration with the player.

Let's blame nothing on Giroud
Arsenal would have won the league easily with a Costa or Aguero up front. Hell, even a Sturridge level striker would have been enough. In the world you have the top tier of strikers like Suarez, Ibra, Lewandowski etc. Then you have the second tier with Kane, Sturridge, Cavani etc. Giroud is a dude who's in the third tier with guys like Loic Remy, Ighalo etc. I can't understand how Arsenal haven't replaced him yet.

Giroud only needs 3-5 chances to score.

I actually think Sturridge would be the perfect striker for us. The timing of his run is second to none and unlike Walcott, he is clinical in front of the goal.
Sturridge's lack of motivation makes him very unreliable.

Lack of motivation?!

Successive managers have questioned his desire to play football. He uses injuries as a crutch for poor performances. That includes Rodgers who got the best out of him. Klopp has felt the same even dropping him to motivate him. Keep in mind he has been moved on from Man City and Chelsea despite his superb talent.
I would love a player who plays like Sturridge. Not sure of him with all his baggage.
Yeah Sturridge is too mentally and physically fragile for Arsenal. We need players to come in and make up for the lack of bottle not compound it.
