I think standing offside is a good tactic to use in a crowded area oldgold. If it comes off a defender you are there to pick up the pieces. If it comes off another attacker you just get out of the way so you are deemed to be not interfering. Lots of strikers do this nowadays

Had to chuckle yesterday - as pictures showed Bale protesting to the linesman that Vardys goal was offside every person in the pub I was drinking, to a man, flicked the V's at the TV accompanied with some choice verbal abuse

Vardy was ball watching and paying no attention to his positioning, it was careless but he got away with it.

The game didn't suit his 'style' at all, he is pretty much worthless if the team he is in controls possession, he is suited to a stretched game, hence he made three passes all half in a side in complete control.

Agree regarding Sturridge though, appears that he will just shoot from anywhere looking to score the wonder goal.

Pile a shat that game was, like a championship dogfight.

Did Edwards actually touch the ball at all, i wouldn't be shocked if he didn't.

Yeah he did run around a lot didn't he, as did ledley.

Didn't really help either of them get on the ball though.

It wouldn't be a real match day thread without Cinci moaning about English football or just football in general. I eagerly await his speech about how it is no longer his favourite sport and it is inferior to other sports he now watches.

Much more passing and possession in baseball I guess

Scotland would certainly be no worse than a nu her or sides at the tournament ohso.

It has been dreadful thus far.

Watered down way too much, too many teams just making up the numbers.

This has been the problem so far, teams just holding possession and struggling to break down other sides, I thought this was what you deplored??

How would you like to see it then Cinci ? You have a go then we have a go.

Just feels like it is being g played in first gear so far ohso, too many weak teams with zero intent on trying to score.

Not seen the Italy game and don't know the score but let me guess, two goals maximum? Close?

The danger with Edwards playing well in such a high-profile tournament is that there's a risk we'll lose him to another club. We all saw how much he was missed when he was injured last season.

That's right, because when he came back results changed drastically didn't they.

So Italy won 1-0.

That should keep the average at an all time low.

Italy 2-0, Cinci you can't expect the weaker teams to try and out football the better teams can you. Pack the defence and hope for goal on the break, it's not good viewing but they've not all been like that.

posted on 17/6/16

Oh I agree ohso, it isn't the weaker sides fault at all, but that was my point regarding the watered down product.

I suppose they took this route to generate more dosh to pay all the lawyers for trying to sort out the mess at UEFA ?

posted on 17/6/16

I dunno why the did it really but maybe it is because a majority of the Uefa nations are not involved in any meaningful football with the closed shop euro competitions etc.

The third round of group games should see a slight improvement as some teams will need a win to get through.

posted on 17/6/16

I think the weaker nations have done well. Albania have been a real surprise. And the fans of these nations have had massive followings. They have been good for the tournament.

Another good win for Croatia today, they look a good team. And another decent game to watch as most have been.

Game held up for a firework display. How on earth do people get into the ground armed with these things, do they not do searches?
