in the office we were talking about half time subs and I said "Roy? No way. Not many do it and I seriously doubt Hodgson would"
Proved wrong, but I was pleased
I watched the game at my mates and all the lads were saying at half time that we needed to get Kane and Sterling off and get Vardy and Sturridge on. I told them that there was no chance that he would do that at half time and it would probably be 10 or 15 mins before he made a change. I was surprised to see Sturridge walk out of the tunnel for the second half and absolutely stunned when Vardy followed him.
Hopefully Roy keeps them both in the team now. I feel a bit sorry for Kane as I do rate him, but he hasn't been at it so far in the tournament and Sterling has been rotten. Sturridge makes things happen, always looking to get the ball into feet and play little one-twos. I would actually love to see Rashford, Vardy and Sturridge start, as I thought Rashford was one of the best players on the pitch when he came on. However, that would be unfair on Lallana, who has played quite well so far. Rashford should at least be getting the last 20 minutes or so and I think that him and Sturridge could play well together, as they seem to be on the same wavelength.
Elvis, very good summation and I don't disagree at all.
Roy made the right subs and it paid off
Kane looks knackered and should be benched for vardy.
Play Sturridge in place of sterling.
Hounslows
Kane is a great player, but a different type of striker to Sturridge and Vardy who were all over the place when they came on. The fluidity is harder to defend against.
The substitutions made little difference to our overall game, we dominated from start to finish and Vardy was quiet and Sturridge wasteful when they came on.
Our luck changed in front of goal second half, with a fortunate assist from Williams and a kind ricochet in the lead up to the winner. Sturridge`s goal was well taken but Roy`s subs brought a change of luck rather than a change of the dynamic of the game.
Vardy was quiet and Sturridge wasteful when they came on.
================================
So, to recap, England are getting beat with Sterling again being completely wasteful,
Kane looking somewhat out of his depth, for whatever reason, so Vardy and Sturridge come both score, England win 2-1.
Can I ask a question, hopefully there are some experienced or aspriing goalkkeepers on here... why oh why, when Bale was 35yds out did Hart stand one side of the goal? From that distance, if you stand in the middle surely there is then enough time to shift either way to save the ball? And Bale has a harder choice.
Anyone?
No need for a wall from that distance really
Hart should have done better but I wouldn't drop him.
I wouldn't drop him... just saying it was a weird decision.
I disagree about the wall. Put it in the middle though. Then Bale has to commit one way or the other, and Hart can see which it's going all the way. Why stand over to one side when the ball is that far out? Bizarre.

-----------------
To be fair, he had enough time to save it from his starting position anyway. The problem was that his footwork was terrible. Watch the goal again and you can see that he takes two small steps to the left then dives. One larger step would have seen him push the ball away quite easily. I have said in the past that Hart has a slight weakness with shots that are low down to his left. He has made quite a few gaffs from shots that are in similar areas.
Let's hope that's the last mistake he makes
"Vardy was quiet and Sturridge wasteful when they came on. "
Vardy scored within less than 10 minutes of coming on the pitch and Studge scored the winner, they both scored and that's quiet and wasteful?

Billy...the very fact that Roy saw fit to put two strikers on was my point...not particularly what they did...although both scored
You're just arsey because Kane was non existant and got hooked...and if you're looking for wasteful....try Eric Dier

Or a liability...look at Alli...for all his talent
I would also assume Joe Hart has spent an intensive few sessions palming away 30 yard free kicks this week...
Hodgson should have made those substitutions after twenty minutes of the Russia game.
Sterling is not even Premiership class and Kane is about as fit as an asthmatic hog.

to be fair we owned the Russians for the most part...we got caught cold at the back by a striker who had more desire than our defenders...& dare I say it a keeper who was not prepared for the looping header as well as he might
"& dare I say it a keeper who was not prepared for the looping header as well as he might"
Joe Hart has been a liability so far and he just stood and stared as the Russian goal went in,his form is woeful and he needs to be replaced before we hit the knockout stages,he will see us on a plane home otherwise!
