Before the tournament started I told workmates we'd draw all three games. We were 30 seconds away from that.
We were best when, against Wales, we just threw the kitchen sink at them. We didn't do this tonight and held something back, and as a result we didn't get anywhere. Mind, Wales weren't parking the bus in the same way as Slovakia.
Did we dominate the game though? We passed the ball slowly around the midfield and got some corners and had a few long shots. Wasn't like we were all over them and missing 10 great chances.
Keeper had no great saves. Didnt hit the woodwork. So how did we dominate. They let us dominate by parking the bus.
Nobody dominates a game that ends 0-0!
Because, as talented as some of our players are, we never have that something special. We have some good backs and some acceptable attacking players but relying on Henderson and Rooney as creative midfielders is not a sign of quality. Hart, Cahill and Smalling are an accident waiting to happen. Dier looks as if he could be class, but that's obviously not going to be enough. Sterling, Lallana and Alli are not good enough - although Alli may have a bright future.
Just hope we get some luck and make it to the semis or even further.
Wales managed to win two games, because unlike us, they have a really average team with a couple of special players who can do something different.

A couple? Lets not stretch it now. They have one special player. Bale. Nobody else is above england's players. Ramsey is average at best, a typical workman-like player.
Why are people glossing over the great chances we had that should have finished. You guys seriously telling me the Alli, Sturridge and Vardy chances weren't golden? Another day I'd have expected all of them to go in. lallana had a very good chances as well from a Clyne cut back.

My point is that Lallana, Alli, Sterling, Vardy, Henderson, are not good enough to take the chances they get at this level.
Lallana & Henderson maybe but then not everyone on the pitch can be goalscorers. Vardy scored 24 league goals last season, Alli got 10 league goals in 33 while Sterling has got over 10 goals all comps for the past three seasons..

Yeh but I don't think england pushed Slovakia back. I think they decided to go for a 0-0 from the outset. Obviously england got a handful of chances, that is inevitable when they just give up the ball completely.
Could go one of two ways. When they play a big team maybe the extra space will favour england. Or maybe they will just get outclassed. Time will tell I guess.
This is why you need a different type of player in the squad too. Townsend is as good (or as bad) as many of the players in that squad - he's more, direct, looks to take a player on and can finish. IMO, a much more useful player than say Rashford at this moment. You could also make the same argument for Walcott who would have given us much more than Vardy tonight. Our players are too samey and uni-dimentional.
He should have put Barkley on as he's the only flair player we really have.
