Vardy: Weird Character!

Leicester offered equal or more money most likely. Probably him and his agent were waiting to see who would come up with most money.

Maybe now the group stages are done with he sees it as a good time to announce it, why drag it out any longer than necessary? Better for all parties to get it sorted and put all the speculation to bed. Arsenal can now move on and look for other targets so be thankful you've now got more time to do so

We offered £100k a week so £20k less than Arsenal. Schmeichel, Kante and Mahrez are also being offered £100k so no different to what our other top players will be paid.

even so. He'd have gone if Leicester hadn't have made a good offer with much more money than he was on before. Basically he wanted to stay but with more money it seems to me.

Sensible decision. As i've said other threads, with us he'd most likely get injured and get played out of position. Wenger not really a fan of Vardy type players. He'd have probably trained him never to shoot from outside the box, and pass it 95% of the time. Was always a bit of an odd move from wenger.

Why didn't he reject us right from the onset?

Adds a bit more to his story for his upcoming movie

He wanted to be a big fish in a tiny pond, so he stayed at Leicester.

He wanted to get as much money out of Leicester as he could and it worked he was never joining us full stop

that "tiny pond" being the pond inhabited by PL champions, CL teams etc?

Everyone knows what happened here. It's not the first time an agent has used the "Arsenal" name to improve a client's terms.

We've seen everyone from Suarez to no-marks in Ligue 1 do this in the past.

If Leicester can replicate of come close to last season's heroics next season, then the deal will make sense, otherwise, Vardy and his agent have just taken full advantage of Leicester's last season fairytale.

Well I guess that depends also on how Arsenal do.

If they don't win the Premier League or the Champions League then he's no worse off really.

Why would he move to an inferior team?

Stay with the champions or go take selfies with perennial also rans

True Joby except that we've made a name for ourselves already in Europe

A name for yourselves in Europe.

Once you have won something in Europe maybe until then Arsenal remain last 16 cannon fodder.

He used your offer to get more out of Leicester. Isn't this obvious?

Maybe he just wanted to stay at Leicester slightly more than he wanted to move to Arsenal.
You know the brief, half a title challenge, too many injuries, finish in top four but never win the league. Who would want that??

Or heaven forbid the guy would actually sit down, think about the move, talk to his family etc. Apparently not giving arsenal the finger within 24 days is the sign of a "weird" character.

His agent offered him to all of England's top clubs.

A top club makes an offer, he decides not go to once Leicester give him a better contract.

It's for the money.

Whilst that is a reasonable comment Don, I doubt his opinion has changed much in the last week even if he has seen his family.

Personally, I was fairly shocked he would even consider the move - I think this was always a contract negotiation. Like quite a few people, I said from the off it was a bad move for all concerned.

Oh I think Busby's correct, in that it appears that if Leicester got close enough to what other clubs were offering then he would stay, and in the end they did.

I just found it odd that he was labelled a "weird character" for not turning arsenal down immediately. In fact, I found the whole article odd.

For what it's worth, I think he is a weird character anyway - nothing to do with any of the events of the last month or so.

Oh, no doubt about it (!)

For all his love of Leicester there is no way at his age he was going to stay there with the package he was on after that season of putting himself unintentionally in the shop window.

No brainer, agent dangled him out there, then Leciester responded well with a much improved deal and he took it. Credit to him as he probably would have earned more at Arsenal but loyalty has a cost and Leciester met it.
