Why is it always about Rooney? He was one of our best players first half and perhaps the worst second half. The problem isn't just that. The manager was never good enough but the players are always overhyped, they aren't that good really. Couldn't care less if we all enjoy the PL and it's the most entertaining but the standard is not great. Look at the last season. You can pick faults in all those England players. Hart too cocky and over confident, Sturridge likewise and too greedy. Kane too greedy, lacks pace. Walker can't defend and found out. Rose average fb. Deli Alli young but thinks he has made it the way he was strolling around. Sterling fast and that's it, another Lennon,Walcott,OX,Tony Daley etc !!
Etc etc...
I may get laughed out of town but someone like LVG is exactly what England need. He may be boring but at international level these players need to have it drummed into them and then pick players to fit this.
What is wrong with the England team?
First of all rewarding a manager for failing. Hodgson knew if he facks up he's still entitled to a hefty pay day. Why can't we incentivise our national managers to succeed instead of fail. Meet or exceed expectations at a tournament you get a bonus. Fail, you get nothing.
Secondly we've got a group of young players who could be great. That's not excusing tonight's performance. Play a system that's as close to what the majority of them play at their clubs, mostly 4-2-3-1. So many times players receive the ball then spend an extra second or two looking for someone to pass to. They don't know where their mate is. Extra touches as well, by the time they've done all this the opposition have got men back, made a sarnie and had a cuppa.
Lastly I'd get a young manager in. Someone who can mouldy them into a team. They don't have to be world class, as Leicester, Wales et al have shown. I think Eddie Howe would be a good shout, but I'd need to see what he's like tactically a bit more.
Crap manager crap captain.
We're lacking in qaulity but I think we're also massively lacking in character.Character ,togertherness and belief can take you a long way and I think England really miss that with the players we have.
England were nervous last night. They were thinking in a far too negative manner in my opinion.
