If we get out the group stages (which is likely) we should start to take it seriously.
No. It's a distraction. We will struggle to make champions league place this year. Use Europa to play youth and squad players. Not really that interested although would obviously change my mind at semi final stage <ficklefansmiley>
To be honest looking at our last two games we'd be very lucky to finish in the top 4. We didn't get the signings we so desperately needed to help push us forward.
Hopefully I'm wrong...
Europa isn't a bad competition at all, and is still worth being part of. Just a shame there's so many games!
It would be amazing to win the EL, and I think its the easiest piece of silverwear we can win. I say after the last 16 (assumin we get there) we go all out
would love to watch us in the final of EL
coz I'm a realist, we ain't gonna be in the CL final anytime soon are we???
Nope! Arry and Levy's so called 'ambition' will not see us near the top 4 come December. It may be too late for last minutes bids for Rossi and Forlan. We'll tempt Bolton with a £5m bid for Cahill, where Chelsea swoop in for him for £15m. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO SAMBA?!
I think if we get to around the quarters mark we should start playing a few of the first team regulars. I certainly don't think we should be taking it that seriously yet. It's Premier League suicide.

Are you mad? It's one of the hardest to win. It's such a long slog that the pro's do not outweigh the cons. I honestly think that most top teams (with the exception of Barca) would struggle to to win it. If you win the C League it's because you are the best but i think you need a little bit of luck in the Europa League.
The Premier league is harder fridge, the FA cup is way more unpredictable as its not over 1 leg, and the CC isnt worth winning atm.
I would focus on the Pl & El
The Europa league give the youths and fringe players a decent, and competitive run outs. In the CC and FAC you're likely to get 2, maybe 3 lower league teams but the games are so far and between. Whereas, in the Euro's at least they'll get more chances. It may benefit us too, look at Livermore for example
We have to try and win every competition that we are in because not being able to see the future we cannot guarantee that we'll get top 4 or win the FA cup so we have to try and win the EL. Being in Europe is better than not being in Europe. As for Chelsea well can they guarantee anything also? Will they be top 4 for certain? Suppose they're not and they're 10 or 11th and dropping? Will players then want to go there, who knows?
Seville are the perfect example of how winning the EL doesn't propel you into the upper echelons of the game. They won it twice in a row but where are they now? Where are their best players? If they were consistently in the C League they'd be a bigger team, despite not having won a trophy. Our priority is the league and a 4th place finish.
fridge, I dont think we were saying that the Europa does propel you forward, just look at how Porto have had their best players (and manager) stripped from them.
I just think that its a prestigous piece of silverwear worth winning, and if we cant manage being in the Europa and the PL then we dont deserve to get fourth

Good point. The top teams manage to juggle both. We need to learn to.
It's precisely the attitude that some teams/fans have towards the carling cup that has made it interesting again. Anything can happen because some prem club turn their noses up at it so what you actually get is a more interesting competition.
In some ways I rate the carling cup over the fa cup because it is less predictable.

Me too. For instance, When Arsenal were fielding their talented youth players against the starting 11 of lesser prem and championship clubs it made for entertaining competitive fixtures. Then you had the early final in Feb, and of course the earlier rounds are over before xmas so there's no clash with the all-important end-of-season run-in which happens with the fa cup.
Its certaintly carved out a nice niche for itself.
The FA cup is riding off the past too much. it needs an overhaul.
It gives a club like Tottenham a realistic chance of winning the highest level of European competition it is ever likely too.
