Spurs, typically have a tough start, and if they play
Iike they finished will almost certainly get beaten.
My fave was the Pompey game. I was on a 4 day stag do in Amsterdam.
Sat in a cafe, Spurs on one channel, Ashes Cricket on another, hot bar maids serving drinks, pint in one had, 'herbal cigarette' in the other. Spurs won. Eng bashing the Aussies. Constant supply of pancakes! happy days
typically, Spurs have Everton first up, with their new manager bounce effect probably seeing them start well.
Yeah I have a bad feeling about the Everton game with there new manager bounce.
Although flip that around and maybe its a good time to play Everton before he has chance to get his ideas, tactics across.
I would take a draw.
Everton are not a team to be worried about. Have to be looking at a win.
Great article by the way, a lot of effort has gone into it!

Thanks. Distraction when I should be doing other work!
Getting pretty excited about the new season now. I was quite happy for the last one to be over, given the way it ended. We left our four worst games of the season right until the very end, which meant an overall excellent season ended on a sour, depressing note.
With hindsight, finishing 3rd was a fantastic achievement, but it was an underwhelming end to the season that wasn't really warranted - given how well we played for large chunks of it.
So I was glad of a break. But, now the Euros are over, it's time to look forward to the new season again. And it's almost impossible to call. It's possibly the most wide open I can remember it. It's literally impossible to call the winners or the top 4.
(That probably means Chelsea, Man Utd or City will walk it now!).
Leicester's win, though, has given teams across the league hope. If Leicester can do it, why not us? The fear factor's gone. The quality of the smaller teams is getting better year by year. I expect Soton and West Ham to be competitive again, and I expect Liverpool and Everton to improve on last year. Arsenal are always up there (more's the pity), Chelsea, Utd and City must surely improve on last season and who knows what will happen with Leicester.
There is also no reason to expect that we, with a stronger squad than last year and a young team with more experience behind them, can't do as least as well as the season just gone.
Impossible to predict. Should make for a cracker. I'll even take the inevitable mind games between Pep, Jose, Conte, Wenger and Klopp. Poch and Ranieri, like last season, can stay well out of it!

Agree we go looking for a win, but Everton actually have some very decent and dangerous players. With a better manager giving them stability at the back, theyll be a threat
Agreed!! I wrote a comment a few days ago saying that you could make a legitimate claim for any one of
Utd
Chelsea
City
Arsenal
Liverpool
Spurs
Leicester
To win the league, let alone get top four!
And yeah I can see West Ham also challenging, and there is normally one surprise team each year, so I have not got a clue how it will finish.
If I absolutely had to, I'd say Utd to win the league.
As for us, I honestly think we could finish anywhere between 1st and 7th.
I must admit that I'm footballed out for now, need a few more weeks before I get my enthusiasm back...
Newcastle, Spurs last opponents were not a team to worry about and Spurs lost 5-1. Everton will be a very difficult opener.
United have zilch chance of winning the league, they will struggle to finish top four in my opinion. Very disjointed outfit, lots of expensive players just thrown together.
I have a phobia of opening day games, ever since taking the coach from WHL to the Riverside to see us humiliated by Middlesbrough.
I've also been present for some opening day crackers too (the aforementioned Liverpool game stands out for me) but I'm still haunted by the Boro game....
I will be happy with a point up there, I expect good things from both Liverpool clubs this season
I'm guessing Spurs will end up somewhere between 4th and 6th place.
And behind the Arsenholes yet again.
everton are my dark horses for this season
that is a tough game. hopefully with the new manager they are not settled, hopefully he doesn't know his best time, and they will have a less settled squad if lukaku and stones leave
i want 3 points but would probably view 1 as a decent start
