I know it was only a pre-season game but I was not impressed by CCV or Ball at all. Young players who rarely played last season should be ready to go and they looked so sloppy.
Obviously rates CCV to become 4 CB.
--------
big leap of faith... he is completely unproven.. I would be happy with him as 5th and let him play league cup, but I would prefer another top centre back to compliment the trio we have
Great news about Vertonghen although i hope we start with the impressive Wimmer and ease Jan back in.
We have three top CB's with the option of CCV or Dier filling in. Wanyama will play a lot of games this season to cover Dier, Dembele and Alderweireld.
We definitely need another CM as you say now that it seems Bentaleb is off.

CCV started shaky but that was because of ball imo and he got better as the game went on. after Ball went off he looked very good imo
We wouldn't be letting Bentaleb leave (if that's true) if we didn't have another CM lined up.
I know that Poch likes mason and caroll but he will know that they are good squad players but that we need another better option in the middle.
Make no mistake CCV will be a top defender, wether he is ready now i don't know but he has the physicality and maturity above his years.
We can't judge the Juventus game CCV played alongside Ball and an attacking player filling in at left back.
Im sure that if he played alongside one of our experienced CB's we would see what a great prospect he is.

I'd love to see CCV alongside Aldy in a couple of cup games to see how he does alongside a seasoned professional. Reckon it'd bring out the best in him.... dunno if that's just wishful thinking on my part though to be fair
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with this. Playing 2 kids vs Juventus attacking threat was always going to be trouble.
How happy would people be with Dier as an (emergency) CB? Then Wanyama can take Dier's CM spot.

phew!
but generally cold water it seems.
Somehow Mason, Chadli, Carroll, even Son have to be moved on if any more new players are to come in.
Sandy wanting to sell Son already
I know that he was facking dreadful at times last season but when he first came in I thought he was very good and the talent is clearly there
No way we should sell Son, think we will see far better performances this season.
Dont cry for me Argentina
OK maybe you are right, substitute Clinton for Son, total waste of money that one.
Just get us another forward if Kane is still burnout and Janssen does not take off we are deep in the mire.
Keeper too. Boro are on the verge of signing a 4th keeper. We have one keeper to turn to.
Everton making a cracking signing Gueye for cheap money. Statistically proven, proven in the league, proven at Lille before that. 2nd best defensive midfielder in the league very close to Kante despite playing for a team with no fight. That shows a good attitude and more room for improvement in his game. These are the type of deals i want if we are bargain basement shopping. Proven quality as Poch will get even more quality from them with his management.
Hopefully our "advisors" Ian broomfield and david pleat will play a role in the next transfers. Rather than the black box.
Everton got Gueye? That is a good signing
Spurs still NEED a box-to-box midfielder, and although they don't need them, a keeper, centre-half and striker would be handy as well. I'm running on the assumption that N'Koudou will eventually sign.
Promising that Poch is talking about signingS plural
I think CCV should be given the opportunity to be our fourth CB for the season. Dier can fill in if really necessary and it's going to be difficult to bring in someone else of sufficient quality who is willing to spend most of the season on the bench.
Signings plural probably means Nkoudou (although I'd rather we give Onomah a shot) and hopefully a CM who has a bit more presence than Carroll or Mason but isn't as overtly defensive as Dier or Wanyama - essentially a Dembele backup.

what is this based on?
I mean you may be right, but what have you actually seen that suggests he is ready for that?
or are you relying on LLM scouting reports?

I've seen a fair amount of him for USA at Under-20 and Under-23 level, it seems he is well thought of within the club and he performed solidly enough against Juventus, despite the fact his defensive partner had a bad game.
With Dier in the squad (and, in Wanyama, someone to cover for Dier if he does need to be moved back) to provide more experienced defensive cover if needed, I think CCV would benefit from a season with the first-team group + some cup appearances.
But I trust Pochettino on this and if he feels we need another experienced option at the back then that's fine with me.
