Dani Parejo would be a good Carrick replacement. He's in his prime too.
I wouldn't lose any sleep if Rooney was sold tomorrow.
But I wanna give every player a clean slate under Jose and think everyone else should.
Looking at today's game - and I know you can't read too much into pre-season - as well as looking at the balance of the team (and assuming Pogba is imminent), I'd be very tempted to line up like this:
-----------------------DDG
F-Mensah--Bailly---Smalling--Shaw
--------------------Carrick
-------Mkhitaryan-----Pogba
Lingard--------Rashford-------Martial
I think Lingard could be an important player in the team - a bit like Park, Welbeck and Hargreaves in that they work hard, cover a lot of ground and do a bit of donkey work to allow some of the other players some freedom.
Rashford for me has a quality that Zlatan lacks - the ability to run in behind and stretch teams.
players like Carrick don't come around very often. Rather than try to replace him we should try and find a new way
-------------------
i like carrick a lot
as much as i like him he is not xavi/pirlo/scholes class i.e he is replaceable
gundogan would have done nicely
i will happily see us blow the pogba money on kroos
btw madrid beating chelsea 2-nil

Good line up actually. One of the greatest regrets we might have this season is zlatan benching Rashford.
i loved Lingard from day one. A rich mans Park ji sung who would always have his use in a United team

I believe in Jose. Doubt he'll make Rooney world class but he might get an extra few percent outta him.
I look forward to the season with hope rather than loading up the catapult to slate players who haven't had a chance to disappoint us yet
IMO our best side next season and one I think might do well will be this...
DDG
Darmian Smalling Bailly Shaw
Morgan
Pogba
Micky Rooney Martial
Ibra
(Obviously not exactly that formation, I mean to say that Pogba will operate between Morgan and Rooney)
Are you suggesting that Rooney hasn't had a chance to disappoint us yet?
Robb,
MS ball watches too much to be the holding player. I'd rather Carrick or Blind.
I also don't think that front four is balanced enough. It's a very much a 'looks good on paper' type line-up, whereby the 'best' (Rooney??) are crammed in.

he certainly has and I wanted to hire Dog the Bounty hunter last season to take him to jail
But I just wanna see how he fares with the Jose effect. I'll probably press redial to Dog by September but one can hope we get a bit more out of Rooney before he's arrested for crimes against football

Maybe but you advocate Lingard who even if Rooney was dropped shouldn't be playing there.
IMO if Rooney is dropped I'd like to see this...
Carrick
Morgan Pogba
Micky Ibra Martial
Robb, why do you keep leaving Rashford out? He is our best forward.
Is it based on age, reputation or what?
I advocate Lingard for the same reason Fergie played Park, Welbeck and Hargreaves. Other managers - and Jose is one of them - also like to have that wide player who offers work-rate and balance.
It's actually one of the reasons I wanted Mane - similar attributes to Lingard but better overall.

It's because I don't think he'll start nor do I think he's our best forward.
We have to manage expectations with him and not make him an instant starter. He will have plenty of opportunities but Ibra is our main and best striker and Rashford will serve his apprenticeship like most other 18 year olds. I assume he'll start in the Europa.
Who do you think is better then?
At 18 you can be the star player, not an apprentice. As we have seen at OT and elsewhere.
Zlatan - "We have something great on the rise. Let's see if Pogba comes too, then it'll be even more interesting".

Zlatan is better than Rashford and I don't know anyone sensible who would pick it any other way.
Rashford might go on to great things but there's a danger with fans expecting too much too soon. Ibra is a truly world class player and he will start and deservedly so

I think Jose might sometimes. Be good to see both succeed
rashford knows he is the future playing understudy for one season to zlatan knowing you are heir is not bad for him or utd.
He will have plenty of chances to impress
Incredible to think that 7 months ago he was probably sitting in his bedroom dreaming of scoring enough goals for the youth team to perhaps sneak into the pre-season squad and do enough to earn himself a loan deal at a championship club, where he could impress enough to get bought and signed to a professional contract.
