Can't see a lot wrong in that, what's the problem?
Why do Arsenal fans go quiet in pre season over signings but after 3 weeks into the season are already berating Wenger for not doing enough to bring in more players?

Really? Well first of all it isn't his money, secondly we've started every season in recent history at least 1 or 2 players short which most of us presumed it was down to Wenger's reluctance to spend which subsequently means we don't compete. So yeah to me that's a bit of a problem to me and it might be for anyone looking to blame Kroenke for Wenger's lack of ambition and aptitude.
If it were to happen would you be happy for him to sign a new contract?
“I personally believe the only way to be a manager is to spend the club’s money as if it were your own because if you don’t do that you’re susceptible to too many mistakes. You make big decisions and I believe you have to act like it’s your own money, like you’re the owner of the club and you can identify completely with the club. Because if you don’t do that I think you cannot go far.”
Fairly sure he's not under the illusion that it is his money.

I never said he thinks it's his money only that he acts like it's his money there's a difference.
At least hes thinking about retirement. Thats the first hurdle.

Odd that you would answer me by saying this then, "Well first of all it isn't his money"
Think AW is basically stating he will spend the club’s money responsibly. Nothing wrong with that.
Just hope he gets a move on...

I don't know whether you're really stupid or deliberately trying to straw man my point. It's a fact that it's not his money I wasn't suggesting he's delusional enough to genuinely believe it's his money which your comments suggest only that my first problem with him treating the clubs money like it's his own is that it's not his. I know that, he knows that and you know that but it doesn't stop him, that was what I was trying to get across.

In theory it makes sense, the reality of it however leaves us 1 or 2 players short at the end of the transfer window.
I am starting to think that we don't actually need any more signings. Boom - I said it!

I assume you mean that by thinking about retirement, Wenger has cleared the first hurdle?
Unfortunately you couldn't be farther from the truth. The fact that he's thinking about retirement is in itself a hurdle he has to get beyond, one he seems reluctant to do.

Yes, and I can't see any problem with him treating as if it his own and being a little prudent. As I said.
As far as I can see the alternative is to say "feck it, it's not my money, what do I care", spend the lot on a couple of players and cross your fingers and hope for the best.

While (as a fan) it’s immaterial to us how much a player costs the club, I think it demonstrates the affection AW has for AFC.
There are many managers who have little or no long term interest in their club. Safe in the knowledge that in three or four years they will be working elsewhere.
That said, choosing not to spend the money made available for strengthening the squad is unforgivable, unless silverware is delivered. Even if that involves spending in excess of market value for a player.
So you don't see any problem with our approach to transfer windows? Why does the alternative have to be "feck it, it's not my money, what do I care"? Is there nothing between what we're doing now and just spending money for the sake of it?

I disagree. He shouldn't treat the money as his own as it isn't - in fact it is the supporter's.
I don't believe that he should simply throw the money around and make ill-thought out gambles on players. However, surely there is a middle-ground where he pays the going rate for players that we need thus enhancing the team's chances of success?
He rarely does this which is the problem. By all means be careful with the club's money but I believe that Wenger goes too far. All possible signings are a gamble but sometimes you have to look at those like Higuain in 2013 that are calculated gambles and go for it.
Not so sure supporters can claim that match day revenue forms a significant part of the transfer budget. Simply as a percentage of turnover, match day revenue produces a fraction (while chunky) of total income.
While AW is notoriously stringent when it comes to spending, I believe KSE need to be held to account. In that it appears they have exploited AFC’s cash reserves to borrow against. And therefore require it to be kept at a particular level.
Wenger's bosses should be the ones spending the money.
Wenger is indeed too tight with the club's money but that decision shouldn't even be his to make. It's the people above him who have let it get this way. They defer all decisions to him. He might as well be CEO, COO and CFO all in one.
I mean this story is ridiculous:

This highlights Wenger's main problem for me, and that is his loyalty to his existing players. So many times we've seen him persist with players that don't make the grade and players who are always picking up silly injuries. It's not a trait that combines well with a pragmatic spending policy.
