It's nothing to do with clinging to the past when millions are still suffering from effects of slavery.

You, and this former liverpool player, should research the blockade of Africa, where more than 3 Score years before slavery was abolished in the USA, the British Navy actively raided slave ships taking prisoners from Africa to the USA and sent them back. This was at a time when slavery was massively lucrative and the rest of Europe was profiteering from the trade.
If this, coupled with 200 years passing since, isn't enough for certain individuals to move forward together with the rest of us, then they are more to blame for the issue still being alive than the British Empire by immeasurable amounts in my view.

The guys an idiot for rejecting it for that specific reason.
You don't move into the future by clinging on to the past. The best thing he could have done if he wants to contribute to unity in the British community would have been to NOT drag up events from hundreds of years ago to bash the white masters. Silly man.

I'm afraid it is. He makes that clear in his statement. Perhaps you shouldn't recklessly group things together.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree. The effects of slavery are still happening NOW. All will be forgotten if racism stops.. if effects of slavery are forgotten

Ever heard of racism? What is the root cause? Why does it still exist?
Racism only exists for white people, other races, colours get a free ride, the number of black associations, within the police force, the judiciary are the tip of the iceberg.
if these associations were white they would be deemed racist.

No one is denying that. Maybe because black people suffer the most?
Take America as an example..
Look at the rate of shooting compared to other race
Look at the rate of crime compared to others
Look at the rate of violence compared to others
Look at the rate of education compared to others
Look at the rate of success compared to others
Look at the rate of murder compared to others
Look at the rate of drug usage compared to others
These are all directly linked to racism and slavery. In black people in America have always had the odds stacked against them due to having to start from an extremely disadvantaged position?

We have had black people coming to the UK for over seventy years, they have failed to grasp the education available, there are a very small amount owning any business, other races that arrived much later people from India, China,Cyprus have all been relativly successful in the Uk.

This is EXTREMELY ignorant. So you're generalising a whole race and saying that they have failed to grasp the education system? Only a "small amount" owning any business?
Wow I'm sorry but that is an outrageous claim. Have you actually met a black person?
Most black people I know are highly educated and really successful (I work in London.. Central).

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where have I claimed ALL black people are disadvantaged?
Also even if that was the case and all black people were disadvantaged, being disadvantaged doesn't mean you can't fight your way through difficulty to become successful.
Being born in a poor family does not mean you can't become successful, otherwise no family will ever come out of poverty.
My point is that it is very difficult to catch on in life.. to start up in life and do well from a disadvantaged position. It's like giving everyone else a head start and asking you to catch up.
Most black people I know are highly educated and really successful (I work in London.. Central).

These committees who choose who gets honoured can't win. If they pick black people to be honoured they run the risk of the reward being thrown back at them, if they don't name black people on the list, Lenny fecking Henry will have his soapbox out screaming the honours list isn't diverse enough.
