Well, if we sell him. He will be worth a few pounds more than he would of been 2 weeks ago!
Well, Sven's done a good thing here loaning him,he needed the games and I bet Sven cant stop cracking a smile, when Waggy comes back on January and on some great form, we probably will see him start for us!
Waghorn will leave in the same way Fryatt did if Sven is still around.
Sven has his ideas and his favourites and nothing seems to change that.
I'd love him to stay but I agree with merseysidefox. Sven does seem to like "his" players which will be a shame. I rate Waghorn better than Vassell myself.
Vassel is a better player than waggy when played in the middle. More pace and a better finish/poachers finish. waggy blasts, closes his eyes, crosses his fingers and hears the groans. I believe neither of these two players have been given the opportunity to play down the middle often enough though to fully show their potential on a regular basis. I can, however, see us playing a 4-4-2 diamond more regularly from now on and i reckon vassel will be a really good strike partner for whoever he plays alongside because of his pace, he can create an aweful lot of space as defences will be scared of him
Can someone tell me why people still love Waghorn?
What's he done in the last year to deserve a chance?
"waggy blasts, closes his eyes, crosses his fingers and hears the groans."
You missed the bit about the people in row W ducking for cover.
I like Waghorn as a bloke; clearly he just wants to do well and enjoy his football, he almost has a bit of child-like innocence about him. Unfortunately that's also the problem - he just doesn't seem to have learned anything in the last 12 months. He doesn't understand how to play football outside of his style (hustle and bustle) and thinks the only way for him to impress is to break the back of the net every time he's in possession.
Maybe he will learn, and I hope for him that he does; however it must be concerning that neither Sven nor Paulo Sousa could get anything out of him - in fact I can't remember him having a really good game since he was here under Pearson. For that reason, it's probably best for him that he joins back up with Pearson again at Hull.
Looks like he is going the same way as Fryatt and Hobbs. I don't think he will play for us again.
Dungeon, I disagree a little. Waggy proved under Pearson that he effective in this division.
What I will say is he clearly hasn't been effective in any formation Sven has played, and for that reason, it's right for him to go out on loan and get his confidence back.
What I don't agree with is that he "can't finish". If you look at most examples where he's blasted in to row Z, it's been a half chance or snap shot. There are very few examples of Waggy being 1 on 1 and blasting over. If you look at his goals last but one season, he has some very assured finishes.
So, I appreciate that Waggy is out of confidence and currently does not feature in Sven's current plans. But I fail to accept the argument that he "can't finish" or isn't up to it.
It's just a case of wrong team, wrong time. You have to respect his commitment and I wish him well, whether it's with us or not.
I actually agree with Dunge. I think the reason he played well under Pearson was because his style suited Nigel's with the direct style of play. When Sven and Paulo came and tried to play passing football, it didn't really suit Waggy's style and he failed to adapt.
I don't think technically he's good enough yet to play this style of football and his passing, his movement, his touch aren't yet sufficient. He's definately a confidence player , which might explain his goals for England U21's, and going back to Nige and a style of play that suits him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him do quite well at Hull but I think good performances will raise the price rather than put him higher in Sven's thoughts.
Agree with Mersey.................and would add that he needs to be 1 of the front 2, assuming we play 4-4-2.
People are forgetting that he's still very young. Not many are the complete player at his age.........let alone coming from a reserve team into a 1st team.
