We may well be lacking a proper thread for this game, so I thought I’d put down a few thoughts by way of the background as I see it. If NewYankee is reading this I’m sure he has best wishes from us all.

When challenged by Paul Goodwin in the press conference about his system Ferguson said that he considered them capable of working in it even if the younger newer players might not find it easy. He was adamant that this was not a learning experience though, it was real life. I think that he may at least have implied in the past that it was OK to make mistakes in getting used to operating in the set-up he favours which he obviously believes in 100% himself.

When will it all come together, we worry?

Cambridge were exhausting to watch in the cup tie, so much effort did they put into it, and we won because we stayed composed and had some class in our play. There may be some residue there now, but it struggling to manifest itself in the scramble to seize the chances which come our way; they tend to be snatched and hurried in the anxiety of current expectations.

When I have seen them, players like McSheffery and Alcock have had the confidence to hold the ball and think before they execute and I assume/hope that Baudry is such a player too. Such characters are missing at the moment and are needed to provide a balance to the side.

We want for composure then, but at least the team are not going out following a loss to Crawley, so there is hope and nerves will not be totally frayed. I’d take a win of any kind to remove some pressure and anxiety.

So 1-0 (Williams) and 4800.

trying to stay positive, 2-0 to the Rovers. Williams to score, crowd 3895. Think Cambridge have booked a couple of taxis for their fans.

I see Accrington have been just fined (£5K) for the ineligible player they put out against us and Bradford despite winning both matches.

Good luck to the team tonight; unfortunately I am out, so I'll shan't be following the commentary so I will have to just try and keep in touch with the score.

Can we win tonight. Bloody hope so as we need some positive support from the fans to get behind the players who really do need step up to the mark.
Going 2-1 win, Rowe first goal. Crowd a poor 4007.

Loose and the clock will start to tick on Fergies time at the KM and he knows it.

I'll also go with the popular 2-1 to the Rovers. Marquis to score, and a poor 3888 to watch it all.

Massive improvement in performance THANKS TO A 4-1-3-2 set up.
We look much better with the flat back four and apart from a chance in the first minute we have been comfortable defensively.
Pity about the penalty miss but as well as that we have made their keeper make three decent saves.
Overall we are the better team.
Bit of a shock finding that Marosi is in goal.
He is a decent keeper but I am not keen on Ferguson dropping players after making an error in the previous game.
Maybe the two keepers will be rotated like Shilton and Clemenceau were back in the day.

Andy Butler outstanding

Totally deserved. Outstanding from start to finish. But for a keeper whos had the game of his life we could have scored 4,5. Very enjoyable performance and kick starts our season

Agreed about the keeper azza, he had a blinder.
Glad Marquis got the goal, he deserved it.
Him and Williams linked up well.
Lanza, Houghton did a good job for me protecting the back four.
Agreed about Butler.

What a relief, but a good performance by all accounts and good news at last. Something to cheer up NewYankee I hope.

Very encouraging indeed, but one swallow does not make a summer! However, as I'm out of retirement this week running a wine shop while the owner is on vacation, it was wonderful news on a very slow day, business wise.
What is it with us and penalties...! Who takes the next one?
I also hope the result is a good pick-up for NY, my friend in Wisconsin.

Not sure why Rowe or Copps doesnt take the role of pen taker inparticular the former in future. With our play and the defenders we'll be up against we could get a few.

I agree azza re Rowe.
But 26 u have to b joking.
Always runs a mile when it pen shoot out time.
You have 2 have a pair

Hound i just couldn't see a need to sit Houghton there last night.
Really hope the goal helps Marquis confidence
Good save from the keeper late on on the post but he should have put it on the gound defo goal then.
The pen was a shocker.
Even if the keeper goes left or right his feet are going to centre goal on the floor 3 feet in the air yes but centre on the floor no..
26 did well.
Wright looks ok.
Evina has 2 start.
The others did ok.
But Butler.
Maybe DF may reflect dropping him last season may of cost us dearly
