Chambers or Holding?

I agree. Holding looks very mature for his age and level of experience, very exciting future for him I hope. I think both centre backs were decent against Liverpool, despite that 15 min blitz.

However, chambers looks a bit more accident prone than id like. He reminds me of a Vermaelen sometimes. Potential there but loads to learn.

I hope Holding is given a run in the team. I have huge concerns with wenger's decision making but choosing to throw him into the 'deep end' isn't something that I see worthy of excessive criticism. Of course let's not depend on him and make him our first choice centre back, but to trust him and give him this experience is what makes a fantastic player.

Holding.

We already know Chambers is shiiit but Holding hasn't yet proved to be shiiit, yet.

Yeah I'd give Holding a shot, Chambers just looks out of his depth, even before he got Montero'd I wasn't the only one saying he looks very raw and unsettled.

Holding wasn't great last week but he looks more assured and better in the air. Musa could make a mess of Chambers.

Just because he's inexperienced and came from the Championship is no reason not to give him a shot. John Stones was a 500k signing from Barnsley (I think) and pretty much went straight into the Everton team at a younger age than Holding is now.

Holding.

Chambers is a bit of a pansy, which is sad, because he has the ability.

Think wenger will go with chambers but I agree I would go with Nacho or even Debuchy (if he hasn't been sent out on loan yet) with Koscienly

Regardless we will be conceding one or two here

Front 3

Walcott - Giroud - Sanchez

This is where I miss Sagna

The guy could always fit in at Centre back and be a rock there as well

Kolo Toure would still be able to do a better job than Chambers and Holding

Should be holding. Would send chambers a message.

Unfortunately I think Wenger will play chambers due to 'seniority' and not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings.

Chambers played the second half against Leicester at home last season iirc and did a very good job. Albeit Leicester were down to 10 men and we were very much on top.

He's not useless. I really don't get why our fans are so harsh on him. Apart from that Montero roasting he's never been awful. He has suffered from Wenger bringing him in for really crappy situations (like last weekend for example, or last year's Liverpool game) and then dropping him or shifting his position as soon as the senior players are back (understandably). It's no surprise he's never managed to get comfortable in the team.

Aaaaaaaand with all that said, I think Holding looks better anyway.

Holding has better molecular geometry.

But chambers has better binding, so it's swings and roundabouts really.

Chambers has never shown he's anything more than a poor/average player. Not at Southampton and certainly not at Arsenal.

He's still youngish for a CB but at best needs a loan somewhere or just to work on his game in training, certainly not ready for a side with title aspirations.

You're kidding right? Chambers at the Emirates against Liverpool last season had the worst performance I've ever seen from an Arsenal CB in my lifetime. And it's no hyperbole: I saw plenty of Cygan, Senderos, Silvestre and Squillaci.

Right up until the roasting for the ages he got against Montero (not seen such a destruction other than Bale against Maicon), I had been pointing out to the willfully blind that Chambers was a glaringly dodgy CB starting from our CL qualifier against Fenerbache (or was it Besiktas?) where Demba Ba gave him a very torrid time.

It's time to face up to the fact he's pony. He's not hopeless. He's young and has time on his side to improve. But he's poor right now. Our own expensive waste like Phil Jones.

I actually liked him at Southampton at RB under Pochettino. At a point, he was ahead of Clyne and playing well. He looked good in their high-pressing game defending on the front foot before the opposition could get in dangerous situations. Arsenal exposed his weaknesses getting isolated against attacking players cos we don't put much pressure on the ball and our defense does come in for a battering quite often.

How long until we get 'the center back's Holding, the goalkeeper's Willy (Caballero)'?

Soooo....that's a 'no' for chambers from Sheriff.

Not being embarrassingly exposed as he is Arsenal isn't really an achievement.

He was never an attacking threat at Southampton and hardly a defensive rock either, just a very average player who happened to be very young.

He might get better but right now he's miles away from being a top defender, championship would flatter him.

Nah, he was a pretty good attcking threat at Saints. Not in that Marcelo way ripping the flanks, but more like a Maxwell type: composed in his passing and linking up cleverly. Even at Arsenal, when Chambers gets forward at RB, he makes good decisions and looks tidy in our build-up play. It's when a player runs at him that he craps his pants.

Fair enough. I didn't really see much of this attacking threat but then again I wasn't really going out of my way to watch him at that time.
