It's stupid refusing to bid £5m or £10m more for a player that will lift you into the Champions League places. You'd actually earn millions more in prize money and merchandise etc in the long term...
Are we the new Arsenal Obers ?
I think Conte has got'em where he wants 'em,and long may it continue !
Iffy i was just composing this when i saw yours.........sorry.

Are we the new Arsenal Obers ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For some reason it looks as if this is the board's objective. I'm not quite sure why. It took a hell of a lot of investment and hard work for the club to reach 'elite' status and now as a club we seem to be throwing it away without so much as a fight.
For me the main problem is the board and some fans care too much about our public image. I personally don't give a flying feck, but the media constantly slating us for not bringing through youth players/sacking managers/general bad publicity has clearly had an effect.
So we are basically becoming Arsenal in blue tbh. Main aims are top 4 and bring through young players it looks to me. and the odd trophy
Flash,
Obers, yeah it seems to be a bit like it, but lets not forget we have a new stadium in the pipe line.
As far as becoming the new Arsenal, well I'm happy for us to financially savvy , but lets do it better and compete.
We have more ambition than Arsenal, That's for sure. Let's not forget only 2 years ago we won the title. The club have bid over the odds for players but at some point you have I draw a line and think we have with Koulibaly and we did last year for Stones, We met koulibaly's asking price 3 times and Napoli still declined.
Koulibaly & Stones , ok but have we solved our defensive problems we are a week away from the second transfer window closing in the last two seasons.
Are we being realistic in our targets ?
This season we are minus European and champions league football.
Yes i agree traditionally and like to think our board have more ambition than our north London rivals.
Agree with your article, great minds think alike ifarka

We don't know that for sure. Also, the story doesn't add up, if we bid the first rime their asking price what the feck are we doing bidding for the 2nd or even 3rd time. If they are not serious doing business in the first bid, you just know that it's time to walk away. Have we not learned anything from the Stone's saga last year ?
Your example of not wanting to pay over the odds for Stones is suspect. Martinez kept on reiterating ad nauseum "Stones is not for sale" Stones himself was confusing on Chelsea, first giving out that he wanted a move, then saying wanted to stay with his family in the north, and then signing a new contract with the team.
Naploli's De Laurentis says much the same about our latest target.
Its not for want of trying , they just don't want to sell.
...and how many on this board were saying 40M for Stones, a defender is stupid money....?

I preferred the Veron and Shevchenko days.. Would rather just spend spend spend than be like Arsenal 🤔
Tway,
Its strange we are constantly looking at unrealistic targets, but if were to believe what we read in the press it would seem so.
Who really knows, but the fact we are not solving all of our player issues shows imo we are not doing something right.
But all that said and done we are not getting taken to the cleaners and breaking the assumption Cfc will pay any price , which in the long run should help our buying policy .
Look this season we have no C/L football which will always be a draw back.
Lets hope we bring in one or two decent players to solve the gaps in the squad so that we can compete and get back into the top four.
