Alexis Sanchez

I think the way to play is to emulate Barcelona's system and have a fluid front 3.

Start Sanchez and Theo out wide but allow them both to drift central and swap positions throughout the game.

When you bring Perez into the mix then it works because he has experience playing out wide as well.

Needs a mobile striker who he can interchange with. Look at him for Chile. Eduardo Vargas brings out the best in him. Giroud is what holds Alexis back. Hopefully Perez can be this player.

Yesterdays game because of Xhaka and Cazorla being able to control that midfield Ozil didn't have to worry about dropping deep. He played almost like a second striker which allowed Alexis more freedom in his movement and bought out his good side. It was almost Bergkamp Henry esque

I am actually thinking Sanchez and Perez(Walcott) play as inside forwards, Ozil drifts as a number 10, receives balls from Xhaka out wide either side then plays passes to the inside forwards.

In that way we destroy the shape of the opposition team and pull them in all sorts of directions.

We need to see ozil and sanchez away from central midfield and playing closer to the final third. Thats where the discipline of Xhaka is crucial and whoever partners.

I am scared Wenger may want to go more elaborate and play Ramsey next to Xhaka so he can make those late runs in the box where opposition players wont be able to stop him.

No doubt Sanchez and Perez must play as inside forwards which means our full backs need to play better

I don't think anyone expects either Theo and Ox to last past November. There'll be plenty of games left to play a front 3 of Perez, Giroud and Sanchez.

I was also very interested to see how Xhaka would cope against a 5-man midfield yesterday. I thought he did well when we were in possession, but fell off the pace in the 2nd half.

It's still early doors, but we need to settle on a midfield partnership for him soon.

His best position is right wing or no.10. Especially when Giroud is up front.

With Xhaka in the middle it make sit easier for Ozil to do the job up front.

The way to go forward is fluid front 3 like posters above mentioned. It would be devastating to opponents add Giroud as Plan B which we haven’t had in a while. Thing are looking good, now need players to settle and adapt to new of playing.

We need another tough, good deep lying midfielder IMO to play at the pivot with xhaka. We have to many attacking type midfielders.

I am not sure why you think we need one when we have Coq & Elneny and besides Xhaka does a lot of tackling.

Guess I didn't explain. Both of those players come with 1/2 the game to fit the bill. Like yesterday, Wenger bought on midfielders to hold the game more tightly and we still looked vulnerable.

Think about how many midfielders we had out there in he last 20 mins.

Its not about the players, more about how we defend. We tend to defend space (specific zones) in our 18 yard box hence we invite pressue.

I have issues with this style but obviously bould and wenger feel it limits the opposition to less clear cut chances.

for me it invites pressure and gives the opposition momentum

It's kind of a dangerous game to play, we could have easily have come unstuck yesterday if it wasn't for chech.

Anyway I do y buy into it, you had Elneny, Wilshere introduced into the game and niether of them made any difference in cutting out Watford IMO

So if we move Sanchez from the wing and he might get 25 again in a season as a CF, which is 9 more than Girouds best. He got 17 last season so an average of 21 for us from the wing.

We put another winger in his place who might get 10 goals, but for ease of maths lets say 5 goals less at 12. It gives the team 4 more goals over a season. Say 37 from the 2 players.

or....

We buy a 25-30 goal a season striker, giving us 9-14 more goals than Girouds best and keep Sanchez on the wing with his 21 a season. Say 46 goals for the 2 players.

I dont think Sanchez should be used as a CF. We still need to sign a striker and with 2 quality players they will probably create more for each other and the rest of the team as well increasing our goals even further. Hopefully Perez.

No such thing as a 25-30 goal a season striker

So what would you call a striker who regularly gets between 25 and 30 goals?

I think DJ meant we would not buy a 25 to 30 goal a season striker!

posted on 29/8/16

or some of our midfield players could score more goals, just a thought.

No striker does.
Higuain, 36-18-17-16-22-10-27-22-8-2
Benzema, 24-15-17-11-21-15-8-17-5
Aguero, 24-26-17-12-23-20-12-17-19-6

Ok, Ibra did in France but it is still only 5 seasons out of 18 that he hit 25 goals.
