Lochnell Arms North Connel Argyll.

Great wee howff and many happy memories there.

Think the best one was when they built some pitched slated tile effect thing over the bar area which was supported on two walls and a corner post bolted into the bar surface.

Wee telly up in the corner and an OF game is on. Packed solid by fans of both sides and the place is literally shoulder to shoulder.

Some can't see the telly so one of the boys decides to head out to his shed, comes back with a chainsaw and in among everyone saws away post top ans bottom.

Whole roof lurches forward but somehow manages to just stay in place albeit dropping somewhat dangerously at the unsupported corner.

It was gone after that day

Ginger

Auld pubs for me.

I tolerate modern pubs and only use them as a necessity.

First time in an auld pub I check the roof plaster.

Then look for the Jakies, ales, & prices.

Most folk do it other way round.

Comfy in just about any bar that has continuous cornicing.

That means it’s been there for yonks and not been altered / subdivided.

Survived cholera epidemics, the Kaiser and Hitler.

Yonks can mean 400 years in towns like Dumfries.
