Morning Don
"Sissoko, Wimner, Janssen all could of started which would of given much needed rest for the likes of Kane, Eriksen and verts"
This was the CL mate, the competition that we have spent years desperate to reach. I can't for the life of me understand why we would 'rest' players in our first game in the CL?! We should be absolutely full strength for every CL game - otherwise why are we in it? It's the big one!
For what it's worth, I can't understand why Poch went for only one proper CM (Dier), and then five attacking players. That was madness in the CL. Should have played Wanyama instead of Son or Lamela.
notso, we have a long season ahead of us mate. We can't play the same 1st 11 every prem game and in europe to. The high intensity level of play poch implements will cause us burn out if we keep playing the same 1st 11. I'm not saying drop half the team mate. Just take out 3 players and put in 3 or so just to freshen it up. This is not a drastic change but at the same time will keep our squad fresh.
Don
I am not for resting players three weeks into the season for the supposedly biggest competition the CL. I have to disagree with you on that one. I will admit though that Kane is playing absolute tosh at the moment. Have to hope he comes through this bad spell. A couple of goals against Sunderland may help.
If he'd have started with Sissoko wimmer and Janssen last night and we'd have been beaten 1-2 then people would be on here questioning wtf he was thinking.
The team he put out was a decent team. A few players didn't show up.
Sandy, fair enough mate but i just think a few players could of been rested. 1 or 2 is not going to change much and will give players a kick up the backside. Kane needs to be dropped sunday mate for his own sake.
messiah, thing is you can't have that attitude where you think "if we start these and lose".....taking out 2/3 players is not a big deal. Now if poch took out half the team and put in the likes of Onamah etc then i agree that is not acceptable. I still think the likes of Eriksen, Kane could of had a rest and we could of bought in quality last night like Janssen etc....Kane looks shattered

I agree mate, for sure.
But if we're resting players, do it against Stoke, or in the league cup, not in the CL which is where we've been desperate to be for years! The CL games are the big games.

The fans would be up in arms if we started resting players for CL games.
notso, i agree maybe do it against stoke. I think we should mix it against Sunderland sunday. I think we have more than enough with Sissoko, Janssen etc to beat sunderland. Kane needs a rest.

No problems Don mate.
messiah, maybe i worded it wrong... i mean utilise the squad in general so i don't just mean drop players for CL. It's just we played near enought the same 1st 11 against Stoke so i was using last night as an example. But yes i agree against a sunderland we can afford to drop a few players.
Don't disagree with any of that Don. I think Kane, Eriksen have played with the attitude that they are "un-dropable" for a while. If you want the big money/ new contracts then there's an expectation that you deliver when it matters..... Last night mattered !! On that subject.. I know Lamela is much improved but lets not get carried away. If reports are true & he wants a bumper pay-rise we should be very careful.... He really isn't THAT good
Agree that Poch got it wrong. What last night proved was that Dembele is key to everything +ive and to get the best out of Dele he has to play further up the pitch.... If that means dropping Eriksen... so be it.
For Sunday.....I'd like to see Janssen start up top, Sissoko in for Lamela and Dele playing Number 10 with Eriksen dropped. Dembele and either of Dier or Wanyama in the middle and Son is probably worth another start.

I don`t think Walker bombed on up the flanks enough, he started off like he was going to have a field day, then hardly got going for the next 85 minutes. Spurs should have been pumping the ball wide at every opportunity, and getting the two full backs running on into the vast empty spaces. Everthing was tippy tappy through the middle, meat and drink for the Monaco defence, who were well organised.
A team that press together, has to stay together.
Diamondlights, totally agree with your team for sunday mate

Couldn't agree more. A few players haven't quite turned up yet - Kane and Ali are worrying me! Janssen deserves a start, and I would like to see what Sissoko can do.
Poch has said that Nkoudo isn't fit at the moment so I wouldn't hold your breath on seeing him just yet

Not starting Dembele when available is a big fack up IMO
Also without Rose we are one lopsided team. Seriously need to get a reserve LB like him as Davies just doesn't work in our set up for me

If you had to rest players then it had to be against Stoke, which in hindsight, would have been better as you found Stoke easy and lost to Monaco.
Why would you rest players in the CL, the biggest competition with the biggest pull for players? When we won it in 2005 we were also rans in England but then could pull in players like Reina, Torres and Alonso which I made us one of the best teams in the league.
The same side that started against Stoke (Wanyama in) should have been picked. We had control of the Stoke game when Wanyama went off and could then be free flowing. But the game was already won.
Last night they thought they had the game won before it even started which is why there was no sign of Wanyama or Dembele.

Nkoudo looks like an exact clone of Clinton, not fit when he come in, will not be seen all season. Then will be moved on at the end of the season. Seems like another pointless buy.
If Poch had made three or four changes and lost we would have all been on here furious that he changed a team that had just won 4-0.
