Vydra a bit like Kevin Hector, what do you mean by that a70plus ex postman?

posted on 15/9/16

Ybovva, a good joke that and asked for, But Vydra has a low centre of gravity and looks difficult to shake off the ball. But of course he has many miles to go before he reaches the Hector peak of ability. I do think though that he will put in some good games for us.

Vydra needs to improve his first touch to be compared to king Kevin.

Hector played most of his best stuff in partnership with a strong target man. Now where could we find one of those?

Pearce gets rid of the ball much more quickly than Shackell which allowed Bryson and Hughes to get forward before the opposition marked them out the game. Warnock, Shackell and Baird all dwell on the ball and have slowed our attacks. Warnock has gone and hopefully the other two will follow.

One thing is for sure as far as I'm concerned. We need Will Hughes playing further forward than so far (except the Ipswich game).

I wonder what Baird would be like as holding MF.

Thanks Ramdini

We have no height up front or on the wings, the onus is winning the second ball after the goal kick and we are quite good at that. The winger only has to make a challenge for it then be ready for when the midfield/fullbacks pick it up.

I saw the Blackman effort only briefly and if I'm not mistaken he threw himself at it when it was not necessary to do so. This smacks of a total lack of confidence. If anyone needs a goal it's him.

I'm happy with the performance, all I want at this stage is to see desire the rest will come.

Baird would slow us down Ramdini. Let us forget about him other than someone who can come on as a sub and play in a defensive role if one of our players is injured.

I wonder how Ince, Shackell and Johnson are feeling now. Not that they will be too poverty stricken by being squeezed out. Smite me with such a fate.

How did Butterfield play?

Hector and O'Hare.

Vydra and................ I can't think who would fit the O'Hare role. Did we once have a chap who could hold the ball and pass to his faster colleagues? I can't remember his name, but I remember him scoring plenty of goals and laying them on for others. He was good in defence when the opposition had corners and free kicks, he would have been useful in the Newcastle game and might have prevented their first goal.

Isn't it odd how some folk forget how good some players were.

Not bad, Scouse, but overshadowed by the performance of Hughes and Bryson.

Thanks Spart.

I too listened to the Pearce interview, he definitely does not come over as your stereotypical footballer, which is a nice change. I hope he does well for us.

I remember the player you refer to. Unfortunately those memories are fading as he hasn't performed the way you describe for a year, or 2 managers ago if you prefer to think of it that way.

Oh, VC10 means Martin, thanks for clearing that up Chris, I thought he was on about Malcolm Christie.

posted on 15/9/16

It will be interesting to see if Chris makes it back to 20 a season. I hope he does, but against our closest league rivals.

Chris Martins seasons that contained 20 goals are a thing of the past

We got rid a season to late

posted on 15/9/16

Well, the other night I would rather have Martin coming on than the £30K a week Bent or the £2.79 mill Blackman or the £4.75 mill Ince.

I questioned the manager's competence when he picked Bent, Blackman and Ince in place of my favourites, but at least he realises that putting your arm around, flattering and giving the number 10 shirt to young Tommas hasn't worked.

Ramdini, I hope comparing Vydra to the Great Kevin doesn't come back to hurt you.

I'm pretty sure Kevin wouldn't have been rotting in Watford's reserves.

posted on 15/9/16

It was not exactly a comparison. Kevin was incomparable. It was just that something about his structure and physique reminded me. Can we just hope for great things from him? I'm trying to be positive here.

People need to stop going on about having a defensive midfield player. Them days are gone with Pearson in charge. We will be playing a 4-4-2. There is no such thing as a defensive midfield player in that system. You will have a pairing who cover each other simple as that. Ive said before that Bryson & Hughes are playing in a role they haven't played in for years. Tuesday night was by far the best they have played together and the whole team responded as for the 1st time this season we had a grip on central midfield. Scoreline says we lost by I was encouraged by the performance. Pearson's comment today "I'm not really bothered what players have done in the past" is an indication that if you cant play his way you will not have much mileage left at this club.
