Defence,,,needs a LOT of work!

Our search for a clean sheet goes on but overall our defence has been improving. But it's obviously not just magically fixed, they are bound to have setbacks on the way like today but thankfully we still won.

But overall we are heading in the right direction. And this season we have shown that we can win all types of games. We have beaten big teams away from home, beaten the reigning champions at home, streamrolled a lesser team at home and won ugly against a lesser team away from home. Burnley apart, it has been just about perfect so far.

If Liverpool could defend they would be contenders.

If we only concede one goal a game like we are doing then we certainly can be contenders with the amount of goals we score

It's not just the defending for me. It's the fact that they offer nothing in terms of goals (I'm not counting Milner).

I understand that a defenders job is to defend but I'd love for them to chip in with a few goals over the course of a season - notably from corners in which we never look a threat.

I have sent enough of karius in friendlies and games and he is now way an upgrade on mig. Come on in the friendly over summer he was over shop in crosses as well and one.occassipn took out own defender out. Too much hesitation and even though I am not a fan of mig I think he should have kept with him

Can never judge a keeper after just a few games. De Gea being a perfect example. He's not done too bad.

Karius has not done too bad I mean, not De Gea. Although he hasn't done too bad either, obviously.

Initial impression of Karius is that he's worse than Mig but like a few have said its very early stage of his career with us. Another performance like that v utd and his confidence is likely to take a big hit if we don't win. He hasn't cost us any points yet so he gets extra time to settle

People never learn when it comes to new players.

Writing them off after a few games

I thought Karius' kicking was good today in general. He was getting a lot of back passes because of Swansea's press but didn't mess about and found a red shirt more often than not.

Obviously his decision making on crosses needs work, show me a young goalkeepers that doesn't! He wasn't helped by centre halves leaving strikers unmarked today so every cross he didn't come for was resulting in a chance for them.

The good thing is we are only conceding 1 a game not 2's and 3's. Obviously clean sheets would be better but it's not terrible.

10 in 7 games but we have had harder games than most. Spurs have one of the best defences in the league but let's see how they get on tomorrow against City's dynamite attack.

It's the area we need most obvious improvement, but we are still winning most games (7 out of 9 in all comps, and 10 conceded in 9 in all comps with the 2 clean sheets against Championship sides).

His kicking was ok, his flapping wasn't

He flapped once.

He didn't come once when he should have.

Let's not pretend it was mistake after mistake.

Karius had a little wobble today but I don't notice the same blind panic that Mig seems to generate when he plays. I think it's time to give Karius a decent run in the team and then see where we are at.

Jesus wept. Some people are ridiculous.

Karius has had what 3 games in goal? Two of them he's had nothing to do. De Gea was incredibly poor his entire first season in England and now you could make a case for him being the best keeper in the world.

I've seen karius from his time at Mainz, he's a very good keeper. Once he settles he will surprise people.

According to GB, Karius has gone from being a new leader to a donkey in a matter of days

For once I'm actually very pleased we are playing on Monday night, gives those extra 2-3 days for Lovren and Lallana to prove their fitness as well as meaning our long travelling international players like Firmino, Coutinho, Mane have more time to recover from flights.

Also fancy us more under the lights against United like when we beat them in the Europa.

PPD....really> I just said he needs time, how that equates to being a donkey is a fkn mystery!! But you carry on with the fiction fella

Neo...Thats a good point actually, maybe could be the difference between them playing or not. Also agree with the night game, there is defo more atmosphere and with 55K screaming us on...we could just maybe spank the mancs

posted on 1/10/16

Im not being ridiculous, all I've stated is initial impressions don't look promising not just today all his games so far including friendlies. I haven't written him off just saying what I've seen

So four games?

Yes

ARE is bang on. Karius' confidence is a big deal. He will make mistakes. But doesn't look like it will get to him.

Reina used to make mistakes and was not bothered. Mig makes a mistake and turns into Massimo Taibi.

Clyne escapes criticism again! He had a decent game today even got motm didnt he but still he was wrong side for swansea strikers first header leaving matip 2 vs 1 he needed get goal side and he prevents the header. Then he was beaten easily back post for the corner :/

Good article GB, at least you are acknowedging that
Liverpool have the worse defence of any team in the top half of the table. Your attack is looking good though, so a 7th place finish should be attainable.
