So I've just looked through the Mercedes showroom and the monthly price for an A-Class hybrid has taken a bit of a drop. Probably with the new 70 plates out now, they want to get rid of old stock.

I might go into a dealership this weekend to shop around and see what prices they could offer me. I went to SEAT last week and the Leon hybrid isn't even out for another few months so I can't even compare.

How much a month? My sis is looking for a A claed

They were going for £350 a month two weeks ago in the dealerships round London. Now you can get one for about £310 a month. It would probably be cheaper as well if you drop the mileage limit to 8000.

A petrol or diesel would probably be cheaper btw, I’m looking at the hybrids.

Tax is usually paid for the first year by the dealer. Some dealers offer a free service for 2 years too. The German ones don’t though as far as I know, they’re pretty tight.

And insurance is on the driver to sort out, although my car came with one year free insurance with VW when I picked it up.

Just been offered one by a Mercedes dealership for £240 a month, with them taking my PCP car as a part exchange.

Turns out that offer was bogus it did sound too good to be true. I might wait for the Leon hybrid to come out.

I’ve only been financing for the last 2.5 years, it’s a good way to have the option to pay for the car at the end for a certain price or you can just give it back to them in exchange for a brand new one.

It’s not money down the drain if you are getting the latest models every couple of years and paying at most £3-5k over the whole period. As opposed to spuunkinng probably twice that for a 5 year old crappy Vauxhall Astra that still has a CD player.

I’ve never bought on pcp, and don’t intend on to, but I can see why others do. New car every couple of years, if you don’t mind paying a good whack each month.

You leave CD players alone

If you drive a lot getting a new car is the best way forward. My neighbor bought a VW CC 2015 plate and in year he's had to replace the water pump and timing belt because the car hit 80k and now his DSG gearbox is going which is a know issue with VW's. That will also cost a bit.

Except that they usually have per annum mileage limits..so don’t drive too much!

If you’re doing more than 8000-10000 miles a year then you’re literally depreciating the value of the car anyway.

What the feck are you even doing with the car to get it higher than that anyway? My car came out March 2018 and I’ve only done 8700 miles in it right now.

Just last week at work a bloke rented an A Class out with us and in 28 days he racked up over 5000 miles on it.

Straight away put him on the 'do not rent' list at the company, how the hell can you even do that much miles in a short space of time?

The cheap car market in the UK is brilliant if you don't mind what you drive

I'm a millennial so automatically we are materialistic.

Yes of course with the car rental industry, we have to do the right checks on every customer. We're giving out assets worth tens of thousands of pounds and have to make sure its protected properly.

This summer we stepped up our security because we had a dozen C/E Classes going missing.

I left tele over 18 months ago, I'm in a sales position at a car rental company. It's a more secure job and literally 15 mins from my house.

If I was still in tele I wouldn't be able to afford a brand new A Class or any other car on PCP.

Fair enough, people will always need cars.

I do care what I drive, my only rule is I try and get something more powerful each time (silly rule), and that I generally only buy german or Japanese.(that includes vw sub brands, seat, skoda Etc as the mechanics are the same). I also feel that pcp is like renting a place, disposal and useful, but ultimately you own nothing, which is why I usually by good quality second hand (as buying a new car is madness given depreciation).

That's lease you're thinking of though Baz when you can't own anything and have to give it back.

PCP always has the option for you to purchase the car at the end of the agreement if you wish. The bit that's annoying is the interest rates though, I'm paying about 6% APR on my Ibiza. That's where the car manufacturers are making their money in.

That’s true, but it’s not that different as most tend to get a new deal before the end so tend to keep going in the cycle. Not against it, can see how it suits a lot of people, I’d imagine 60%+ cars on the road are bought that way. It’s the norm now..
