Actually the British term for British shows are called series but the British term for American shows is seasons.
TBH I prefer seasons
I agree. A season is a continuous period of time with a theme, such as each of the four seasons or a period of when a female animal is in season. It is not a number of TV programmes which are not continuous.
When my daughter asks to watch a "movie" I ignore her until she says "film".
Shut up! Shut up, you American. You always talk, you Americans, you talk and you talk and say 'Let me tell you something' and 'I just wanna say this.' Well, you're dead now, so shut up.

"In the UK, most British-produced shows are referred to as "series" for DVD and Blu-ray, except for shows such as the drama series Hex and Echo Beach, which are known as "season". "Season" is only used for releases of American, Australian, and international shows. Although, in the past when an American series was released, it was referred to as "series", for example, Friends: Series 1. However, any subsequent re-release are now known as "season"."
A series is the show itself. For example, the new tv series west world looks great. But it's in season 1.
Series is the show, season is what year of the show.
Season is now a year?
No, it's an American thing!
I wouldnt go by what Americans say. They are so thick that they cant get their heads around the name "Autumn" and have to dumb it down and call it "Fall" (and I've used it because it as a real facking season, not a series )
Oh, and btw, the trailer for The Grand Tour reportedly cost £2.5m. I'm not against them spending a bit of money but that is an obscene amount. There are so many things it could have been better used for.
Lord help you guys when a real issue comes along.

A season is about 10 months. August to May is the main one.
It's an English soccer thing

You mean football, but yes that is a season.
It's never been called anything else than a season.
When multi episode TV shows apart from soaps run for 38 episodes....then I will consider it a season
Loads fun for 24 episodes.
Is that not enough to be called a season.
