Young Dean, as you can tell from the responses on here your da is held in high esteem by myself and many others.

This is due to his sensible, reasoned and often funny contributions to this forum. Please convey my best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery to him.

Liked that cheers
Will give some more a listen
Recognise the chap must be from old NME or sounds articles

posted on 9/10/16

Yeah, looks a bit NME doesn't he. I was definitely an NME man, it was a bit anti establishment, or was that just the NME name. After that it was Melody Maker if I wanted serious comment on the music to which I listened to my hair grow. Never really read Sounds. Sounded a bit like a poppy title to me.

posted on 9/10/16

Sounds was good more focused on punk initially than the NME

Went a bit right wing though with the coverage of OI
Also Garry bushell was a bit of a noob at the end up

posted on 9/10/16

Aaaaaand, I'd cut my hair and given up reading the lot of them by the time punk got going.

OI??????? Remind me, then I can feel the donkey's ears growing out my napper when I realise what a clown I've been to forget.

It was the start of skin head punk
I guess sham 69 were a pop version

It grew right wing though as kids we weren't really aware of thatvery London based from memory

posted on 9/10/16

Aaaah. There's a documentary on the Beeb next Friday about how the original skins were well into reggae but how it all degenerated into the racism we still see today with thundercants like the EDL.

Sham 69 produced some decent stuff but Jimmy Pursey was a total nobbend.

Tend to associate with the. Cockney rejects given the term Oi is from one of there lyrics

I think it was meant to be punk getting back to its routes which were previously imbedded in working class under privileged youth
Somewhere it turned right though

Working class roots, maybe, but that doesn't account for the @rsehole that was Malcolm McLaren, a public school/art school to$$er who manipulated the bandwagon to make a bluddy fortune for himself from the great rock and roll swindle.

Totally any working class element was well gone with the floggin a dead horse that was the pistols or the mega deal signed by the clash
Things like the CND movement were in full flow bands like crass were even making the charts
The uk was even more mi ex up bs k then than now strange as that seems

Missus has been in hospital since a big op on Monday, so a wee relaxer after a couple of not too great days. Nothing life threatening and she's on the mend again now.

jA is also a great relaxer. Nothing like a bunch of eejits to make you look at the world from a proper perspective.
