I like the Carling Cup and think people dismiss it to easily, yet we are struggling a bit with injuries currently and don't think we can afford to prioritise a domestic cup competition until January, especially considering the amount of games we have to play until the end of December.

FA Cup will be the one we have to commit to out of the two IMO.

I like it myself, and can actually see Poch putting a big 4/5 of our established 15 or so players in, with a smattering of youth and fringe.

Personally I would not use as many, and concentrate on the other two comps for now.

I think the league title is the main objective this season though, and everything will be tailored around that.

^Also, a strong CL campaign will raise our profile with a sponsor yet to be found for the new stadium.

Not very shexy, I know, but such is the nature of the beast

I know I am in the minority here, but I wouldn't mind finishing third in our group. I know it doesn't help reputation or financially (I don't think it makes much of a difference anymore due to the vast somes of the PL TV deal).

Yet we are never going to win it especially if we play all our home games at Wembley.

Whereas Europa is trophy we genuinely could win, and could afford to rotate a bit more.

We strive to be in the champions league every season and are disappointed when we dont make top four so why should we forsake champions league for Europa??

To see Spurs playing Real Madrid, Barca or Bayern at Wembley having a real good go in front of 80,000 fans is what i want to see even though we will inevitably lose.

I want to see us competing with the big boys, until the day comes when we may have a chance of winning a major trophy.

I think Spurs would have a good chance against Real atm!

Tough fixture list but I can't see Poch putting out a strong side in the EFL cup and I think Spurs can operate just as well away from home as at the Lane really.

I reckon Spurs will win most of those expect the domestic cup just because Klopp is playing his strongest team in it.

i expect to lose at Liverpool as we will rotate heavily I suspect.

I would also expect rotation across the games with the CMs and the AMs

I would like to give Toby A a well deserved break every now and again if we can... and wimmer needs some games really.

if we lose Toby A then its problems as history tells us that we cannot trust Jan to step up and be the senior man in the back.

you mad?

not only would that represent a poor showing in the champs, but it would also almost certainly unravel our domestic campaign.

I don't care what anyone says, the Europa league is a far longer, and more energy sapping competition.

3rd place no ways, i expect spurs to win their group and hopefully get a favorable draw in the last 16, which should see them through nicely to the quarter finals

Thats where it gets interesting, i don't hate when it comes to other english teams playing in europe

Tbh I wanted that in the group stages. When the front two of Bayern Munich & Atletico was announced I wanted us to be in that group so badly. Instead we got a group with teams that are annoyingly regulars in the Europa.

For me the priority this season is to become a regular CL team as that is where the most growth will come from, I feel FA Cup and Europa are currently our winnable competitions.

I just really don't want what happened last time round in the CL (in terms of league performance) to happen again.

Yes.

It wouldn't necessarily represent a poor showing, just not a brilliant one.

I also disagree about how energy sapping it is, it depends on the manager really. Under Redknapp it made not the slightest bit of difference as he rotated the squad so heavily; under AVB it almost crippled us.

Plus it would be the group stages we are involved in anyway.

I don't have a problem with the Europa as it can provide a great platform for fringe/youth players to show what they can do. However the CL is different gravy and the thought of playing Barca, Real or Bayern at Wembley infront of 85k screaming Spurs fans is mouth watering. Over 2 legs we would probably get beat but as long as we have a right go I will live with that. Competition for the top 4 in England is fierce so you have to enjoy it when you get there and at least we won't have Crouch in our team if we do go deep into the tournament.

Playing in Wembely is what makes it crap for me, as good a job as we have done its like having two away fixtures.

I really am a huge fan of the Europa, its what we have built our history on, and a lot of our players would possibly have not had the chance/gained their confidence if it was not for it. (Kane, Lamela, Alli, Rose etc)

i think that failing to finish top 2 in a group with cska Moscow, Leverkusen, and Monaco would be a poor showing tbh.

I take your point. but

1. that was when the UEFA cup was a much bigger competition than the Europa league currently is

2. the way to hang on to the players you mentioned is to consistently compete at the top level, along with the elite (the champions league)

gone are the days when players just want trophies. now the big thing is playing in the champions league. I reckon most would rather play in the champions league than win the world cup. its just the old past it pundits who yap on about telling their grand kids about winning a coca cola cup and all that bollox.

it has been proven in the past that EL and the odd league cup will not keep the highest profile players at the club (or happy at the club).

priority this season is the premier league. we can win it, but if we don't, we need another top 4 finish and need to become a consistent CL side as we move into our new stadium. we need to m ove up a level. and once we have established ourselves at that higher level, the trophies will naturally follow.
