It's been a long time since Piper Alpha
I don't usual enjoy watching films full of seamen ...
But this wasn't bad

I was telling her about it. She is only going on 13. Dont think they will ever make a film about that I said. That was another balls up by Occidental at the time.
Both all about profit and greed.

I like the sound of that toiler and the new Ken Loach film
Is it based on Piper Alpha?

Very well made film Curly.

Yup, and when you see what actual % of "extra" profit would've been realised through that mismanagement it's is an absolute disgrace and the decision makers should be strung up.

The trouble is the size of the company. Employ 30,000 and you're pretty untouchable. Employ 30, like me, and you'll be slung in the slammer because you can't afford the fancy lawyers that could keep you out..

That and also the fact that in an organisation of 30,000 it will take some time to find the decision maker.
Sympathise with your situation in being a medium size business owner but this corporate manslaughter law is one of the best laws drafted to account for responsible action.
Yeah it's on the BP operated rig in the Gulf of Mexico. I mentioned Piper Alpha as a contrast to the OP saying it was incredible that only 11 perished.

Agreed, it is a good law, or at least it would be if it applied the same to all. Sadly it doesn't.
Rail crashes, oil rig explosions, Hillsborough - have you ever heard of any high heid yins being jailed?
At it's most extreme, if it happened today would anyone be jailed for the Aberfan disaster which happened 50 years ago last week. Oh yeah, there would be several public enquiries but after spending billions nothing much would happen.
However if a gas fitter from a wee firm did something wrong and a house blew up you can be stone cold certain that his boss would go to jail, regardless of the safety training carried out, I's dotted, T's crossed and boxes ticked.
That's the reality of a litigious world.
I would hope the judges in this events would see through any attempts by lawyers to mitigate anything, especially where established safety standards were breached.
One would hope so, but the reality appears to me to be different. The wee guy is there to be kicked.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, I remember when this happened and watching it on the news etc. I'm sure the flames were visible for something like 50 miles away
Inferno is another film I'm looking forward to seeing, I loved the Da Vinci code and Angels & Demons so it should be right up my street

i liked the da vinci code, wasnt as keen on angels and demons, the book is far, far better.
girl on a train and inferno are high on my list.
when ron howard done the da vinci code he tried to keep all the actors suited to their nationalities, a spaniard playing a spaniard etc etc then in angels and demons he throws that fud mcgregor in there for no reason.
