Countless times I've seen him make intelligent runs, but the player in possession doesn't play him in, tbf the only time he gets the ball is when its lumped up to him or when we pack the box and then use him for a quick 1-2.

Anyone can be clocked as quick on a short burst, don't read too much into these opta stats. The only stat from janssen I wanna see is goals and assists

spends too much time and energy out on the wings, needs to get in the box more often

A short burst is plenty to break a defensive line and get in on goal

Definitely does, noticed him out of the left wing when the ball was in our half, dunno what he's doing out there when he should be central

This season we tend to pass the around the middle of the park and out to the wings, only for the wideman to play back inside, if he stays in the box he will hardly touch the ball. I agree as a striker he should be in the box but we simply do not cross the ball, we try and play eye of the needle stuff which when its not working means the guy in box may as well not be there.

He is lacking a bit of confidence you can clearly tell, snatching at shots, shooting when he should pass, passing when he should shoot, he does make good runs but they are not releasing the ball early enough which then leads to him going out wide or dropping too deep in a bid to get involved the worrying thing is soldado did the same thing but hopefully janssen doesnt go the same way as he has the physicality to succeed where soldado never could. When souness was talking about a lack of sharpness you can see where he is coming from but i think it boils down to confidence rather than ability.

Not sure if he's lacking confidence TBH because if you are surely he wouldn't step up and take a pen especially an important pen that sees us have a chance to get back in a cup game

posted on 28/10/16

Definitely lacking confidence in open play taking a pen is different, it's a free shot at goal and his desperation to take it could also be viewed as an attempt to improve his gs stats as it will be on his mind he hasnt scored from open play yet and is being judged on that

Wasn't that penalty straight down the middle.?

posted on 28/10/16

He shouldn't be lacking confidence, not as if he's missing chance after chance. The issue is that he's not getting into the positions to have the chances in the first place.

13 shots, 4 on target, 3 big chances missed.

The time to worry about a striker isn't when he's missing, it's when he's not getting in to the position for the chances!

in regards to the penalty, I have never been more confident since the days of berbatov. It was a superb penalty and it showed vincent does not lack in confidence. It was like watching ronaldo step up. Confidence is there.

It is purely the pace of the game catching Janssen out, very intelligent player. You can see he just cannot quite judge it yet.

However because he is young it is getting to him and you can see as the match goes on he is less and less effective. (His head drops, he snatches at the ball in any area of the pitch and his positioning is away from the ball effectively hiding) No excuse from a seasoned pro, every excuse for a one season rookie.

I keep saying it because we paid 17 million, because of the positioning we are in (we expect goals, we expect wins as a top 5 premier league club) we could ruin Janssen.

There is a lot of scope for development there but we need to take him out of the firing line. Of course we cannot cos of our paper thin squad.

Janssen was not lacking any confidence in his recent matches for Holland.
Scored a cracking goal in one and was unlucky (hit post) not to have another.
Also, speed is generally measured over 40 yds.
Think he will come good for Spurs, and is getting a lot of undeserved flack on here.
