Too many excuses have been coming out rather than looking at the real problems. Always the same story.
These pitches don't suit us. Wait until you come to England.
We lost the toss, that's why we lost the match.
We drew a test at least we didn't get whitewashed.
These pitches are too easy to bat on, that's why Indian batsman are doing well (even though none of our batsman could even make a fifty today)
Every team struggles away from home.
Until the final comment will eventually come out of pure desperation:

Not sure why you're having a pop at Root?
Averaged 50 this series and scored either a half century or century in every game.
1 century and 4 half centuries isn't a bad return is it now... yes he's not in the best nick he could be but you're forgetting England have been up against it in just about every innings.
How did Kohli get on in roles reversed a few years ago...?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who's having a go at Root?!
Last comment is such a childish and bitter comment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I made the initial point about Root.
His stats are decent but when you are billed the best batsman in the world he does go missing when a crisis needs to be averted. How many times in his career has he saved a game or won a game when the odds were against him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite his last childish sentence, I agree with Serial with the fact that he has done a good job. Just because you're billed as the best batsmen in the world does not mean you have to perform each and every time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Statistically a good job but not sure about game management or hunger to score to big.
I agree that expected more from Root and Anderson, these are world class players and should be able to perform on all pitches.
This does not of course mean you have to perform every game. But you need to be the players that produce when it really matters. Yes, you can average 50 with the bat or 25-26 with the ball and still be quite ineffective.
I'd rather they average 40 with the bat and 30 with the ball and produce when it matters. But I would just say they were disappointing, not a total disaster like some other members of the team.
Wow, what a win. Don't know if it's our bowlers proving me wrong or a case of England's batsmen simply being that pathetic. I guess the truth lies in the middle somewhere. At the start of play today, I would have rated our chances of getting a result at 5-10% so unlikely on a pretty docile pitch but England's batsmen played some pretty atrocious strokes - summed up by Moeen's dismissal after which they all fell like dominoes. However, very happy for the boys and this 4-0 series defeat of England is made particularly sweeter by how we were bruised and battered in that 2011 tour of England. This one however I feel will hurt England a lot more as they have been absolutely tormented throughout the series, first test aside. Cook's time as skipper as well may well be up because England have shown a consistency in being prone to batting collapses which he and Baylis must be answerable to.
The next aim now for this young Indian side is to win series' abroad - we were so close on that tour of Australia despite what the scoreline suggested. Let's see how they fare in SA and England but no doubt at home, we are as close to unbeatable as it gets. Great series

That's true but nowadays you're seeing players struggle to produce outside of their comfort zones.
This maybe down to teams getting more and more formidable in their comfort zones that it requires more and more skill nowadays to produce away from home.

Home series wins are now the norm and clinching away victories is now what test cricket is all about.

----------------
it was but doesn't excuse the rubbish either side of him, it just gives the whole batting line up an excuse for the collapse when you blame one player who scored the most runs, eng recent history shows a unprecedented level of batting collapses when in good positions not just this game
DD, I don't think it's going to be easy. Not many teams win away series' nowadays: home conditions simply play too big a part. Australia were in massive disarray when SA beat them earlier this year and already seem to have overhauled their ageing squad rather quickly. Really looking forward to when the Aussies come over now in February I believe it is - somehow I doubt they will fare as badly as England have.
Not at all. As many are quick to point here, we do not have the best of records when playing away from home. All that I can say that is improved is our seam bowling options with the likes of Yadav and Shami. Really hoping they can bring some threat on green seaming wickets which according recent history we have really struggled with.
All I feel is our players need to get away from home conditions and start to test themselves away. It worked wonders for players like Tendulkar and Zaheer who in my opinion were the ones who could perform with some form of consistency away from home
If India have to do well away from home we will need more than 3 strong pacers. The fact is in 3-4 series match, the chances are that the pacers will need to be rotated. India although have a very strong quartet of spinners, we need to have 5 strong pacers. ATM we only have umesh, shami, Ishant, and bhuvi and shami is clearly our best pacer.
I think our batting is now settling in, Rahul, vijay, pujara, kohli, rahane, nair/jadeja, ashwin, Saha/Parthiv, umesh, shami, ishant.

I agree that teams are now formidable at home and it's very tough to win away.
Also, I feel people need to prepare pitches at home that are more sporting, it is a risk of course as you give the opposition a bigger chance, but in the long run I feel it can improve your away performance.
Yes, English pitches will always favour seam and India spin, but if you can have a more balanced pitch in each country, it could just improve both team's performances abroad.

Just I reckon the pitches India produced this time round have been nothing less than sporting wickets. We could have easily dished out pitches that SA got(complete dust bowls, and probably made it so much easier for our spinners to cause havoc), or even pitches that NZ got. India haven't produced flat pitches for a very long time, and even the Mumbai pitch was a slow turner.
I think England lacked quality spinners but more importantly fast bowlers who can bowl pace. I think Australia will probably be more effective with the ball.
I think pitch preparation should be taken out of the home team. ICC should be responsible for that so that it's a lot more fairer

Good point, it is much sweeter ton win away in completely alien conditions, the only reason I would want more sporting wickets (not just in India, but in England too like making it more spin-friendly) is to get your own team more accustomed to playing outside their comfort zone.
I know some Indian players can play county cricket, but I wonder if some English players would consider playing domestic cricket in Asia (not IPL). It may help them.
Personally, what pleased me most about this series victory was the emergence of some great new players for India - Jayant Yadav in particular. What a shame he got injured because his all round game seems to be top notch. KL Rahul also finally showing he belongs at this level and it will be impossible for the selectors to discard Nair with a triple hundred to his name. Bad news all round for Rohit Sharma as he is going to have to struggle to get back into this side especially as an opener. The same should apply to Shikhar Dhawan as I feel Rahul and Vijay should now be our first choice pairing for the future. Rahane had a poor series but his class is permanent - big dilemma in that middle order now.
England were outplayed in simply all facets of the game: we played with DRS, prepared excellent cricketing wickets for all five tests unlike the dustbowls SA got, lost the toss on four out of five games and our two best players got one wicket and 16 runs respectively in this innings win at Chennai. How a team can score 400+ on not one but two occasions yet still lose by an innings is remarkable: a sign of physical and mental disintegration.

That was a cracker of a catch from Jadeja. Surely England can't lose this came on this pitch.

I just feel you have to work as a team to battle the conditions and that's the whole point of test cricket, to test yourself as a player/team, to adjust yourself to scenarios or conditions. I disagree with adjusting conditions, I think teams need to improve themselves to be better and as a sporting professional you are paid handsomely to do so. It makes that away test victory even more sweeter than having it doctored to your benefit
