He's a better version of Lallana.
I'd suggest, noone else has ever done any of the following :
- 1.40 free kick with old ball
- 2.50"dribble and shot
-4.40 volley into bottom corner
- 5.50 solo dribble through mud
This guy was on a different level of talent to cantona, bebatov, and i'd even say Gascoigne and maradonna
He'd walk into this current England team
Ability wise, as good as anyone we've produced from these isles.
Should have had more caps for England.
greatest of all time?
he was class, and would have been even better if he could be facked, but come on.
He had his McDonalds free card taken off him as he went in there daily

Le Tissier penalty record : 48 from 49
The English Ronaldinho . These types of players usually can't be bothered to put in the extra effort.

He certainly wouldn't run, the lazy fat fack.
It's a good question.
One thing is for sure: if he played in today's environment of excessive tv coverage, twitter, over analysis etc. then he'd be known as one of the very very best.
He was way better than almost all of the players in the league now, there just wasn't the same coverage / hyperbole back then.
Also didn't help that he was at such a small and unfashionable club, it stopped him being a big name. It also probably stopped his game really being as good as it could have been. Messi has Suarez and Neymar next to him, not Chris Marsden and Francis Benali.
But you got the impression he liked it that way and was happy to be the player that he was.
I'd put him in the same bracket as Cantona, Bergkamp, Henry. A great, but not the greatest ever.
He was happy to avoid the pressure of having to perform on the bigger stages. A waste, like Marsh, Bowles, Currie and the like before him.
None of them would have got past the youth teams if they'd been around now.
They would have ended up in the bookies and bars, just as they did back then.
He admitted he came V close to joining Spurs...... Oh well, would have been nice..... Genius of a footballer

22 he was. Wouldve played next to Gazza
Stuart Ripley was a better player imho
Thing is, the greats like pele, maradona, messi , Ronaldo etc all have masses of talent but also a dedicated work ethic. They work fricking hard to improve and to be as good as they are. Matt Le Tiss had the talent but not anywhere near the work ethic required to be as fit and athletic as you need to be a great.
He was thus viewed as a luxury player, and didn't get into the England side much because of it.
So no, not anywhere near the greats, but a very talented player who with the right training and better club and players with him could have been much more

Tbf, I asked whether he couldve been the greatest if he gave a fack, and whilst I appreciate your answer and the comments you've made, you basically seem to have said, no he couldnt have been the greatst if he gave a fack, because he didnt give a fack. Which kind of defeats the purpose of the question.
