Finish first, get Bayern/Real.

Finish second, get Barca/Atletico.

Doesn't really matter. We aren't good enough yet to win the competition. A token semifinal appearance is the best we could hope for.

We really should be concentrating on the PL.

One again, no team looks like running away with the league so that's where are focus should be.

Finishing second means two things......

1. Playing second leg away.

2. Barcelona

That yet makes it sound like you think we might one day be good enough under the current regime. No yet necessary, we'll never be good enough to win this competition under the current regime.

Finishing 2nd is not good. Real will top their group

I said yet because I have hope. It's the one thing you need as a fan. Otherwise what's the point.

You honestly think we might one day be good enough under the current regime? After 20 years? Really?

By virtue of how annoyed I am with the performance of the team tonight, we are certainly good enough to win the competition.

I know we don't press the ball as well as we used to but ffs we might as well have made PSG a cuppa and some scones. The whole team just sat back and said "Alright lads, never mind us, we'll just stand here. You lot just walk the ball up the pitch picking passes all the way, we don't mind."

That performance was WEAK. We pressed the ball for about 7 mins all game. Missed a trick tonight because PSG fell apart as soon as we played with any intensity. Had we kept the foot on the gas and brought Walcott or Ox on at 2-1, we could well have smashed them.

I'm way too mad about what I've just seen for us to not be good enough to win it.

Or perhaps you;re mad because we were good enough to beat a poor PSG team?

There's no way we're good enough to win the competition; Francios Coquelin is pretty much a guaranteed starter.

Wenger brings on Xhaka for Iwobi at 2-2 when it was obviously the sub he was planning to make at 2-1. It tells you everything you need to know about Wenger's flexibilty, tactical nous and use of subs. Why does he always wait so long to change things ? So frustrating and predictable.

posted on 23/11/16

He should have brought Xhaka on for Iwobi at kick off. Obviously he's talented and young but he should be nowhere near the first team at the moment

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe not.

As it stands, if Real top the group they could draw:

Arsenal
Benfica
Man City
Bayern
Leverkusen
Porto

Finishing second could get them:

PSG
Napoli
Monaco
Leicester
Juve

They might prefer not to win the group.

True that. I'm a Dortmund fan in 2 weeks regardless

posted on 23/11/16

Real would actually be better off finishing second looking at that.

Think they've got an excellent chance to get a result, and a draw wil do them to top the group.
Madrid will be coming down from the clásico hype. Can be hard to regain focus after a match like that, especially in the knowledge that topping the group won't make things any easier.

Dortmund meantime have an easy home game vs Wolfsburg. They should be able to rest two or three players, and topping the group for them probably means avoiding Barça, Atlético, Juve and PSG.

posted on 23/11/16

looking at that list as a madrid fan, i'd prefer to finish the group as runners up

posted on 23/11/16

Yeah will need another cushty draw if Real hope to get to the final again eh peks?
