Fair enough Hayemaker, never saw that before the race. Can understand Mercedes not being too keen on it. Rosberg's side of the garage would need to do what's best for their driver and if Hamilton was blocking them they'd be well with in their rights to call him in first.
Even with the failures (for both drivers), Hamilton made enough mistakes to cost him the title. Numerous bad starts and that crash in qualifying for Azerbaijan in particular is what cost him the title. Not an engine failure.
To me the spirit of f1 is the best racing the best...that's 'racing' there is lot more to racing than just who is the fastest to win a race you have to be the first car over the line within the rules.hamilton should have done what he did.he simply had to bring others into play to win...f1 is all about the result to me..plenty of world champions in f1 haven't Been the outright quickest.racing ain't just about time trialling.

Yeah, his engine blowing up in Malaysia whilst he was in the lead and going to take a significant lead in the championship near the end of the season was not to blame, it was Baku

To be open I will state that I don't like Hamilton, but, yes, he is a very good driver and racer.
King 'arry, I think Hamilton if anyone damaged the credibility of the sport. F1 is about being fast NOT trying to make someone else lose position. Whilst I don't think Hamilton was doing anything wrong legally, it isn't really in the true spirit of the sport.
But on the other hand, I loved the race a few years back when Schumacher and Irvine were teammates and Irvine blocked Villeneuve to let Schumacher through. In my mind this was team tactics, and it is a team sport - or supposed to be...
I can see why Hamilton did what he did, but can any of you really say this is the essence of F1?
If Hamilton did manage to get other drivers to pass/collide with Rosberg. How would everyone feel about Hamilton as champion? How would Lewis feel in the cold light of day after the race?
I think most would agree that over a whole season Hamilton is the faster of the 2, but mechanical failures happen. I have never known an F1 season where a failure has brought such debate over who should be champion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People love Senna and Schumacher who did worse things on the track.
This double standard when it comes to Hamilton is something I do not understand
This season on 2 separate occasions his team mate drove him off the track and crashed into him. His team mate then did the same thing to Verstappen.
That does not damage the credibility of the sport but trying to win a championship from an impossible position damages the credibility of the sport?
Who are these people?
This happens all the time in motogp, a far more dangerous sport and you do not hear the fans whining.
I swear some f1 fans are whiny little btches
Every driver on the grid would have done what Hamilton did, Rosberg would have crashed into him like he's done already.
Was a poor show from Mercedes and I like it when Johnny asked Toto why they were interfering and he had no answer.
How can you call it racing when you do not want people to race?
Agree MUDD, its racing!! as i said not time trials. Quali is about who is the fastest round a track, race day is who can get over the line in front of the other drivers completely different scenario. I wonder if Rosberg ever considered taking Hamilton out to win, its been done before, Prost done it, Senna done it, Schumi done it ..... If the gap was closer going into the last race and if Hamilton would have won the championship by just finishing ahead of Rosberg then if in his shoes I cannot say that I wouldnt have taken Hamilton out but I suppose as he could finish 4th and still win then he didnt have to. I actually am critical of Hamilton in the last race, he should have backed Rosberg up much earlier, either right at the beginning of the race or right of from the last pitstop. To me Hamilton had to create as many variables in that race as possible and left it far too late to back Rosberg up.... Mercedes were bang outta order with the radio messages to Lewis and Toto and co should be hounded for it.

You have not watched motogp for years and have not seen these tactics?
Really? I can provide you with multiple incidents, but to help just go back and look at what Marquez did to Rossi last season to let Lorenzo win a world title.
Rossi has done this multiple times, they brake test each other every week, block pass, run each other off the track. Melandri did the same thing to try and win a world championship, Alzamora did the same thing in the 125s.
This is racing, Hamilton did not do anything wrong and all F1 drivers would have done the same thing. Teams do this every race, the tyres will not even allow you to go full pelt all race, so you manage your pace. Look at what Hamilton did at Monaco this season for instance.
He kept Ricciardo behind him driving at a pace to allow him not pit again on softer tyres.
Your last paragraph contradicts your point of view, he was using tactics to win a race.
Niki Lauda once said; "The secret”, “is to win going as slowly as possible”.
Anyone who has an issue with what he did does not understand racing to be honest and were happy for Mercedes to fix the drivers championship.
delboy82 (U7141)
He could not back Rosberg earlier because Mercedes had threatened to undercut him, so he had to wait until there were no more pitstops.
One wonders why a team that had won the constructors championship was giving team orders to affect the drivers championship.
Fascinating
yeah i know thats what they said .. id say good let them bring Rosberg in ... earlier the better more chance of him being in traffic.. as i said Lewis had to create as many variables as possible, Lewis woulda passed Nico anyway as Nico wouldnt have really defended that much in risk of being taken out. Personally i woulda back him up from turn 2/3 lap 1 !!
What amuses me the most is that Mercedes had denied favouritism all season long, now the truth is out there for all to see
They really are not very bright
the more you think about it the more you think they might be wanting a Rosberg & Vettel line up. Also noticed that for most of this year Horner has been very complimentary of Hamilton...could we see Ricciardo move to Ferrari and Red Bull take Hamilton and Max ?
Even Toto said maybe Hamilton should drive for Horner.
RedBull will be thinking about their brand with Hamilton.

yup the only thing that may hinder it is are they able to hand him a car that is capable of winning another WDC? I firmly believe that Hamilton is looking to win one more DC to officially make him the most successful British F1 driver of all time then he will just offer his services to the highest bidder...To be fair if the bulls can give him a car that can win then he and Max would be awesome to watch ! I on the flipside I think that a Vettel-Rosberg fight would be very close also, not sure who is the fastest from them two either
The thing is Hamilton does not even need the car to be the fastest. He won the most races during RedBull's era of dominance besides Vettel.
If he is within 2-3 tenths, his talent can make up for it
true but but as things stand (obv no idea with the rule changes) that merc is about a second a lap(maybe even more with everything dialled to 11) quicker than every car (in the dry) the bulls can almost challenge them in the wet however
The merc works best in clean air, it is nearly unbeatable but as show in a few races last season, you can beat them if you get out front and manage the pace.
They will still have the power advantage but the Renault engine is no slouch and Honda and Ferrari would also improve a lot.
But next year, aero will play a significant role and whilst the mercs are in a class of one at the moment, the redbulls could match them next season in quite a few races.
If I were in Hamilton's position, I would see what Mercedes delivers next year, if he can get another title, he should move somewhere else.
Hopefully back to Mclaren once they sort out that donkey of an engine
The merc aero package is still the best but as you say relies on clean air, the bulls have more mechanical grip it seems you see this the most in slow corners. Mclaren should improve i reckon, with Zak Brown coming in he has very good contacts and will drum up more financial support via sponsors i think, Honda are normally fairly strong at developing their engine or in this case the power unit. I would like to see Hamilton see out his days at Mclaren but they wont be front runners for at least another couple of seasons at least.
