Always had a soft spot for him, given that he hails from my adoptive island.

He is keeping Wllian out of the team. Willian was our best player last season.

He is a bit lightwight for the PL, but you can't argue with his work ethic and Conte seems to appreciate these kind of players. I am glad we have two very good players vying for that spot.

Btw the goal vs Spurs was sublime.

Pedro can look clumsy on the ball but he scores a goal every 4 games. Willian looks good when keeping possession but he scores only 1 in 10. When we need a goal I think Pedro is a better option.

You can't hear the difference when you say them though. I was hoping you'd be illiterate.

Good article. Right on point.

He's an interesting player. I won't necessarily say underrated, but definitely underestimated. Football Manager has glorified the role Thomas Muller coined the 'raumdeuter' a few years ago, and it's Pedro's entire game in a nutshell. He compliments playmakers and they compliment him.

To be honest the combination of Hazard-Costa-Pedro flourishing shouldn't be surprising. On the surface you have one of the best players in the league at running into defenses, one of the best at pulling defenses out of shape, and one of the best at finding space in dangerous areas. They all naturally compliment each other.

Pedro doing brilliantly but I think we will need Willian soon. Maybe even tomorrow

He was our ONLY player last term

Tbh I thought pedro had good performances last year and couldn't believe people got on his back so much when he was being used sporadically, in a new league in probably our worst team for 20 years.(or worst performing team atleast).

Has not suprised me at all the form he's in, hes the only player to have scored in 5(or was it 6) competitions in one year in world football.

Some of his skill has been ridiculous(little flicks and such) and hes a better player than just a one trick pony, but was utilized so poorly last year being forced to hold up the ball against bigger full backs. Now he can be the man on the shoulder and is punishing teams.

He nearly scored two worldies in a row aswell remember with the shot that rattled the bar after costas cushion header.

Another thing I like though...is he seems passionate and cares.

Take away his sub appearances too and pedro has probably a goal every 2.5/3 starts.

Wikipedia:

"During the 2009–10 season, he became the first player in history to score in six different official club competitions in one season"

More remarkable still is that it was his debut season as a member of Barça's first team squad (he'd played for them sporadically the season before, but still as a member of their B side).

think he scored in the CL final that year too

Nah I get that frustration from last season. He's a player who lives on manipulating spaces/channels, he's decent with the ball but is most effective off it... last season we were a mess, weren't moving the ball well, thus Pedro had no space to exploit, didn't know where to be and became utterly useless.

He needs players around him who know their roles so he can support them/know where to be on the pitch, which runs to make. He's almost like an off the ball playmaker if that makes sense

Love the way when hazard has the ball costa comes to support which sucks over 3 or 4 players leaving pedro 1 on 1 with the last defender.

No Nick, both Super Cups (Spanish and European) and Club World Cup final, but they didn't make the CL final in 09/10 and he only played one minute in the 08/09 game.

Another curiosity is that due to those 'extra cups' being scheduled in the last part of the year, he actually set that record not just over the course of an entire year or season, but in just 4 months: 16th Aug-16th Dec.

I think Willian can play in Alonso's position.

posted on 2/12/16

Hes certainly grown on me and this i think is a lot to do with both him plugging away and the new system.

I would arge though he isnt really keeping Willian out the team. At the time of change Willian was sick/mourning and everything had caught up with him, he looked knackered and needed a rest, what I saw on Saturday gives me high hopes of seeing a back to form Willy.

I agree though its great to have 2 good players who compliment each other - it should also further reduce the appearance of Oscar who I desperately hope is sold in jan.

what did u see on saturday? Willian hardly touched the ball and when he did he gave it away?

Hull game he scored a peach though.

I agree with this on the whole. Pedro's most salient attribute (along with his two-footedness) is his dynamism, both for his own benefit and his teammates'. As you rightly pointed out, in a team that's more static he's going to find it hard to make an impact.
