Highly doubt he will ever accept a substitute role now.
Think he realises he hasn't got that long left and now seems desperate just to play every minute of football while he still can. He seems happier than ever at the moment, even if its for a crap team like Sunderland.
I think that too and can completely understand if he wanted stay there. But it's always useful to have someone on the bench who can come on with 25 minutes to go and grab you a goal or two.
With Coutinho out and Sturridge injured how do you feel you will cope against some of the smaller sides in the coming weeks.
Jermain Defoe is worth his absolute weight in gold for Sunderland. He is critical to them and might just save them from relegation yet again and they would be mad to even contemplate selling him.
As Georgi says he wouldn't accept a subs role now.
That's why stated it was hypothetical question. More would you than could we. If you get my point.

Well, sturridge has barely played for us this season so I can't see him being that much of a miss.
Sir super
Sorry buddy i missed your point.
Hell yes id have him back in January.
Still scoring goals and still has a huge appetite for the game. Would also allow Janssen more time to settle and take the pressure off him a bit.

Anfield Rap
Defoe's personality and attitude was always first class even though he suffered so much personal tragedy in his life.
He has scored 250 goals so hasn't done badly.
If that was a snipe at Spurs then i could point to Robbie Fowler, one of the bigger clubs didn't buy him and he didn't get an awful lot of England caps either.
In fact Defoe got almost twice as many caps for England than Fowler and scored more international goals.
Does that mean Fowler had question marks over his personality/attitude?

I always thought Robbie Fowler should have played more for England, maybe his failure to move on to a big club held him back a bit.
I`d take Defoe back, he should never have been sold in the first place. It won`t happen though, for the reasons already mentioned.
He left because he wanted to play games. He's playing games. Mission accomplished.

With regard to Fowler - his England career was over when he laughed at Eileen Drewery and refused to see her anymore. Hoddle had no time for anyone who refused to believe. Strangely I seem to remember that the one who was most "receptive" to the so-called spirit-healer's involvement was Darren "sicknote" Anderton....
And of course the emergence of Owen meant he wasn't playing as often for LFC as he would need to if he wanted to pick up more caps- of course Owen and Heskey both being in ahead of him for club meant pretty much the same for country, not even mentioning Shearer. Feck we had such a wealth of talented players back then!!!
