as soon as I saw matip was out I was concerned. and u can see why. I felt mig was unlucky to be dropped and deserves to come back in.

Matip is a big player for us, have to keep him fit.

Guarantee todays shambles wouldn't have happened had he been playing although it's no excuse.

Game management has to improve if we make top four this season, three points chucked down the drain today.

Are we really pretending that Sakho wasn't prone to utter collapse just as frequnetly as the rest of our back four?

He's essentially no longer a Liverpool player. Sooner we accept that the better.

The last point is the one I was really disappointed with today. Under Klopp we've remained increasing calm and patient when under pressure in games. We've maintained reasonable control even when errors have crept in. That didn't happen today, we lost our heads unfortunately and with them, the game.

I hope we can learn from this game.

Just watched the Curzon Ashton highlights, like watching us and our goalkeeper.

Also re-Karius, I think Klopp has decided Mig isn't for him. Fair enough.

Whether Karius proves to be good enough long term or not, I think he'll be given an extended run in the team (this whole season I'd imagine) and then if he's not good enough I think we'll go back to the transfer market or look again at Ward.

That's a long way of saying I don't believe Mig will be first choice for us again and those calling for his return will be disappointed.

Sorry - should also add that the lack of control and game management was not just the defence. Midfield were sloppy in possession and allowed frustration to creep in and the forward didn't take care of the ball well enough, too many loose balls.

All well and good to look at the defence, rightly so after a collapse like this, but the rest of the team needs to take their fair share as well.

We got rid of Skrtel because he has a mistake in him but Lovren is just as bad. Made numerous blunders this season and even when Matip is back that will only solve part of the problem.

First thing we need to do when the window opens is visit our feeder club.

We need to buy a natural left back. Milner has done a decent job but he's slow and can't handle pacey players. Evidence Tottenham goal and today with the penalty. Karius has been lucky in previous games where he dropped the ball in few games but not today. I would bring Ward back from his loan spell at Huddersfield. He's more commanding than Mig and Karius.

Origi has been in poor form this season scoring a couple of goals when any decent striker can score goals with Liverpool who are creating plenty of chances.

Can is another player who has been lucky to get into the team just after Winjaldum injury.

This game showed we need a new defensive midfielder and left back. Henderson can't tackle and hence can't do defensive midfielder job. Milner can't handle pacey players.

Your two central defenders should be strong enough to deal with the majority of balls into the box.

Ours seem incapable of being able to win any aerial duel.

The keeper punches when he needs to catch and spills it when he needs to smother.

That triangle is like watching the three stooges.

And we lose the second ball battles every time. Just like today.

I happened to be at game today and only my view but you controlled game for first 60 mins and eased up at 3-1. You cant do that in Local football or Premier League.

If u get everything right it will or should be you or Chelsea for the league

Kind words but i don't see us keeping pace with Chelsea or City in the long run. If we can get top 4 this season and strengthen in the right areas i see no reason why we can't sustain a title challenge at some point in the next few years though.

Terrible result today, predictable knee-jerking afterwards.

Mig isn't coming back in as number 1, if Klopp rated him highly enough he wouldn't have bought another keeper in to replace him in the first place.

Karius will be number 1 and it's still very early with him. He didn't look great the first few games, but recently was looking more settled and composed. Today obviously a backwards step, let's see how he responds to the first real error which has cost a goal that he has made.

On Lovren, he's the weakest member of our first choice back 4, and will probably be the next one replaced, but he's not terrible. Generally he's consistent and decent. He just has these games where he goes to pieces a bit every now and again and obviously that's a problem.

Klopp has only had 1 transfer window and wasn't going to solve all our problems in it.

Lucas at centre back has done alright there, but it's clear he isn't going to be the long term answer. Klavan probably didn't play today because he is left sided and Lovren has been playing left side all season so he didn't want to move him.

The most disappointing thing today was the way we collectively collapsed from a winning position that looked comfortable. We haven't done that at all this season. We threatened to do it at Palace, but composed ourselves again and defended reasonably well under pressure against them.

With Matip in the team we may have done the same today, but it's a worry that we couldn't without him.

We were unlucky to lose though. Origi nearly won it for us just before they won it. I don't go along with this hindsight talk about Klopp should have been shutting up shop. The players should have managed the game from 3-1 up by keeping possession and being sensible with positioning. That's their responsibility not the managers. They have done it in lots of other games this season but for some reason today they didn't.

A worrying result but it doesn't kill our season or even our title chances. Let's see how we react and if we can go on another winning/unbeaten run.

Why not just hire Southampton to play all your games

I think karius is average ..

decent shot stopper..but distribution ,kickouts and high balls on top of him are a serious issue..

Van Dijk is to Saints now as Lovren was to them a few years ago. Not saying he can't make this step up, but I feel like we should start signing more players who are proven at Champions League-standard sides. Though obviously I'm aware that such players don't come cheap.

Matip was a.massive loss, but for me the game changed when Mané went off.

The fact is without Coutinho, Matip, Mané and a rusty Lallana coming on, we are not the same team.

It's a bad result. Origi (his goal aside) was poor imo. Lovren has had a decent season but looked lost without Matip's calming influence beside him and the less said about Karius' performance the better.

One result isn't going to derail our season, but without our best players on the pitch, the fragility quickly surfaced again, which is disappointing.

Again, same old story. Bluster and misguided belief gives way to the inevitable reality that a Liverpool team won't get near the title because of a lacking defence.

Shiiite happens. The better team won. Our weak spot? For me, Karius. "Dear Simon, please come back, all is forgiven ..."

Not the end of the world. Conte has got Chelsko firing, no question. For me, after eight wins on the bounce, they are formidable.

It seems that, when all is well, all is very well. The slightest sign of upset, challenge, they fall apart. They are too fragile to be PL winners.

I'd go as far as to say that Mignolet and Karius are the two worst keepers in the league.

posted on 5/12/16

Karius did make the same mistake that De Gea made last week for the 4th goal. All keepers make those mistakes but the way he let the 2nd goal in was more concerning. That was a routine save and he barley landed a finger on the ball.

I generally don't dwell on results too long anymore, but yesterday is a hard one to take as from 1-3 up wit 20 mins left you simply have to win that game.

But still it's one loss in what 15 games or so? It's not the end of the world or a serious dent in our aspirations this season as long we we react in the right way at home to West Ham.

The reaction to Burnley was like 5 wins on the spin or something, so let's hope we see somethign similar.

Hope to see Studge back ASAP to bolster the attacking options.
