Rooney was, for me, the most misused player in my time (nearly 50 years now) watching the greatest sports club on the planet.
probably the best english born midfielder since SBC. Wasted as a striker.
Credit to him for doing it so well, but his stats should have been awesome.
he could have been up there with the likes of Best, SBC and Keane as a true 'legend' - to use that over utilised modernism once more

Not sure if this is a wind up... Rooney is England's all time top scorer and is two goals away from being Man Utd's all time top scorer. Plus he has won a stack of trophies. Wasted as a striker?
As for regrets about players careers I worry that Son could end up being one for Spurs, a player that at times promised so much but failed to deliver consistently.
Not a nufc fan, but Andy Carroll should've stayed put. He was a local lad performing well, but when he left the exaggerated transfer fee hysteria completely overlooked that he was a quality player for Newcastle.
What a pleasure to read a thread that didn't get hijacked by the usual crowd of immature 12-y-o muppets
Well done everyone
I always thought Aquilani would end up putting his injury problems behind and become a quaility player for us. Shame that didn't work out.
