I'm not a huge 1980's fan but for me it has to be Tears for Fears, they barely get a mention nowadays.

Foreigner... Lou Gramm for me is up there with the greatest singers EVER

Sigur Ros... they are well rated in certain circles.... But some of their music is true genius, up there with the likes of mozart.

Anderson .Paak .... How this guy isn't a household name yet, I don't know.

Catfish and the Bottlemen... They are well rated and getting airplay, but they are probably one or two top songs away from Oasis style domination. The live shows are immense.

Kanye.... People see the public persona and don't give him a chance. Turned hiphop on it's head.

Going back to the past.... I always thought Shed Seven were massively underrated... Quality songs and great live.

Charlatans don't get enough credit either.

apartment.

you've probably never heard of them but they are really quite good if you give them a proper listen.

He's good. But turned it on its head? How?

Agree with both of these. Loved Shed 7 back in the day and I've seen the Charlatans live so many times I don't even know how many any more. Must be at least 15 times by now

mainstream hiphop was in a rut. That 50 cent sort of sound, orchestra hits and over commercial lyrics.

Kanye came on the scene and brought the soul and funk back into it, then took it really minimalistic and experimental.

You listen to stuff like Kendrick and the musicality and experimentation is back... I credit Kanye with that shift

Nickleback get plenty of bad press, but if you really listen to their music then you could argue they're up there with the likes of Pink Floyd and Led Zep.

Fair points Ji, he definitely has his own style and, as you said, I think if the public perception of him was a little better people would realise the guy has immense talent. I do find it amazing how many people love Kendrick but would slate Kanye in a heartbeat.

I'd like to hear that arguement

I'd credit Eminem with a lot of how Kendrick is who he is. Huge inspiration lyrically. Their song 'Love Game' is a brilliant team up

Just the lyrics of some of their songs, people don't understand them, or their meanings so just claim them to be poor. I actually feel bad for the people saying that, because of a lack of understanding and intelligence of some of what Chad Kroeger was capable of writing.

Take the chorus from their song 'Too Bad' for example;

It's too bad, it's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
Let's walk, let's talk
Let's talk

Any haters just don't understand.

The Fall by a mile.

When you see some of the winners of these lifetime achievement awards it makes you laugh. Mark E. Smith has been writing his own songs and touring for 40 years and has a huge back catalogue of magnificent tunes yet mainstream radio is too brain dead to play it. He's an alcoholic and a obnoxious sod but that has never stood in Ozzy Osbournes way.

The Maccabees - awesome band.

Agree with Charlatans.
