Mario Run is fun but doesn't compare to other Marios. Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are the closest things to gaming perfection. Sensible world of soccer and Street Fighter II Turbo were great when I was a kid too.

I was gonna put Kid Chameleon but maybe its just nostalgia making it out to be better than it was

Space Quest. Classic Sierra late 80s/early 90s adventure quest. Probably just nostalgia though.

Jeez old timer, I thought I was the only one to remember these games.

I cannot believe you haven't got Manic Miner or Jet-Set Willy in your list.

Or the most destructive game of all time. The joystick killer that was Daley Thompson's Decathlon.

I was involved in the games industry during this era and believe these games are far better than most of the new console / mobile games as modern games lack that 'just one more go' appeal.

Didn't play much computer games as a kid. Going to the arcades was great though. Gauntlet and Outrun.

#1 game has to be Tetris just for it's simplicity and addictive gameplay.

Toejam and Earl?

I think you're confusing the words 'greatest' and 'favourite' Robb.

Some of my faves ever:

Tetris
SMB, SMB 3, SMW
SMK
Sensi World of Soccer
Super Bomberman
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Speedball II
Monkey Island
Sim City, Sim City 3000
Civ, Civ II
Quake II
Assassin's Creed
Limbo
Fez
Everything in the Bioshock and the Dead Space series
CoD MW and MW 2
Forza 4

Ah yes, Speedball 2

Great game. Where I learnt how to be ruthless.

These bums got me promoted? Okay, time to use money to buy better players.

And Toejam and Earl was a classic!

Mostly classic Nintendo games as that's what I grew up with. My top 3 would be Deus Ex (PC), Zelda OOT (N64) and Golden Sun (GBA).

Not a big video game fan but my favourites would have been:

Sonic
Road Rash
Sensible Soccer
EA Sports NHL Hockey
Lemmings
Populous

Honourable mention to Holed Out on the Acorn Electron. Back in the day it took ages to load from a tape and then ages to load each shot. A round took two hours! I'd have been quicker playing an actual game of golf I reckon!

In terms of games I played the most and enjoyed the most:

Fifa 2003
Command and Conquer Red Alert 2
GTA Vice City
COD4
Supers Smash Bros 2

My top 5 in no particular order:
KOTOR
Dues Ex
Max Payne
Halo: CE
Goldeneye

Notable mentions:
Battlefront 2
Perfect Dark
Starcraft
Ninja Gaiden Black
Age of Empires 2

posted on 21/12/16

Honourable mentions to Atomic Bomberman, Mario Kart, Crash Bandicoot, Halo 3 and Tekken 3

Good shout out to somebody who mentioned Gauntlet and Outrun, also can I put Dig Dug in the list as well ? Along with such greats live Centipede and Keystone Cops ?

Toejam and Earl was fun, but it's not one of those you're going to see in critics' lists of the world's greatest games.

Neither is Speedball II though, or some of my other cult faves: Settlers, Syndicate, Alone in the Dark, Cannon Fodder, Zool (you might be noticing an Atari ST bias here...)

Duck Hunt anyone?
