Because United can always play better and Fellaini won't help us do that.
If we get into the CL next season I don't want him playing, we need players who are actually good at football starting.
Fellaini comes on we scored and conceded. Sunderland only shot 2nd half came with the goal.
Not moaning as I am generally happy with progress this season - football is easier on the eye and we are heading in the right direction. The 4x signings are settling in well and all appear to be good additions. Its just an observation, but I just feel he's a guy that I genuinely can't see as a United player if we are to continue to improve and become competitive for honours again, so surely it would make more sense to give game time to younger players who will hopefully have a good future with the club?
I presume it is for his height with the anticipation of long balls towards the end of the game.

I agree. At 3 nil there is no danger of losing the lead? Can understand at 1 nil.
Why not give Rashford 5-10 mins at the end & take Zlatan off?
The guy isn't that good in the air for his height tbh, plus we're not exactly a small team with the likes of Jones, Rojo, Poba, Ibra etc....
Sideshow to be fair he helped us win the fa cup, he did a great block against Everton although he should have scored another and his chest helped control the ball for Mata equaliser.
He also flicked in the winner against west ham united away or shall I say it hit him into the net.
Simple reason. Jose likes him.
When you have a player 2m tall and the opposition are going to go direct, you put him on to close out the game.
Jose wummed Fellaini saying he cost us 2 points so he puts him on late enough to get winning feeling as in puts him on know when even Fellaini can't cost us the win.

Yet he doesn't really have the quality to see it out though does he?! It surely cant be a long-term option!!
Surprised how poor he's been for you in all honesty. His technique was never great but he used to boss games, I was actually a bit jealous you signed him before we got Matic.
I have been extremely critical of Jose's defensive substitutions in recent weeks. But i'll defend him today because he seems to have learnt his lessons.
Half and hour to go, 1-0 up, and facing a possible aerial bombardment from Sunderland via Anichebe. The Jose of 1 month ago no doubt would have brought on Fellaini at this point for one of the front 3, forcing us deeper and inviting pressure.
Today though, on come 2 quick and creative forwards in Mikhi and Martial, and we hit them with 2 more goals. THAT is the way to close out a game.
When Fellaini did come on, it wasn't a negative substitution - it was a like for like switch with a tiring Herrera. And there is absolutely no issue with that.
In fact, i'd go as far as to say one of the most pleasing aspects of todays win was the substitutions. They signalled that we have a manager who is learning from his mistakes - something the last 2 seemed unable or unwilling to do.
