Also Couthino and Firminho are top class players but most united fans say they'd have Martial or Rashford over them
Lallana has contribute more goals and assists than any centre midflielder in 2016 (although not every game has been from cm) but most people outside of Liverpool don't rate him or are now finally starting to think he's decent.
So to an extent we are overachieving but also you coudl argue we now have a manager who has moulded his players into a unit that is amoung the best in the league (talking starting 11 plus decent bench when all fit)
Oh and we're not as bad at the back as is made out
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Coutinho is top class. Firmino definitely isn't.
Neither Martial or Rashford are yet, not even close, but their potential is huge.
Is Firmino just one of those players that scores and sets up goals all his career without being good do you reckon?

Yup i agree that Fergie dragged us across the finish line with one or two of our titles. It definitely wasn't because we were playing Anderson and Cleverly in midfield!
We also had experience though with Rio, Vidic, Evra and Rooney and Van Persie who WAS brilliant.
Klopp is doing a good job at the moment, I'm eager to see how Liverpool perform towards the end of the season. You are quite intense in the way you press the opposition and I have a feeling that your players may start to tire.
Having said that you don't have to play mid week footy so that's a help. The last good season you had was also without the burden of European football and you almost clinched the title.
I look at the Liverpool team and I'm not scared of the individuals (not including Coutinho) but the way you play as a unit. I think if you were a rich club you'd most likely win the league within the next few years.
Personally I still think you are a few world class players short of being able to win trophies on a regular basis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your team did have some stars, you're absolutely right. But you added those 'stars' after you'd won a couple of leagues and had the reputation of competing for the league every year and at least the qtr finals of the CL.
We're not there yet. We may never get there, after all 4 of the richest 8 clubs in the world play in our league. Tough gig.
What I do know is that if we are going to get there, it'll be with a manager that gets more from his team than perhaps he has a right to expect.

Clearly a good player but he's not top class. Barcelona are sniffing around your only top class player.

Just read Klopp has never lost a semi final. Needs to win something to get this five finals thing out of the way though.

Goal every 3 games, a fair number of assists and a huge work ethic on the pitch.
He's not going to replace any of the Barca front 3 (4 if you Iniesta) and yeah there are better forwards but Firmino is comfortably good enough for a title challenging team.

Explain to me how on paper we look BANG AVERAGE?
Clyne is a superb player and one of the best right backs in the league.
Matip has proven to be a fantastic addition to our side and been every bit as good as Balliy and we didn't pay £30m for him!
Milner may not be a world beater but playing out of position at left back he's been facking superb.
Henderson people still laugh at him, maybe because he runs funny but now he's over his heel injury he's been on of the best Midfielders in the league.
Lallana the best English player around and he's been fantastic.
Mane walks in to any team in the league.
Coutinho walks in to any team in the league.
Firmino walks into any team in the league.
Football matches aren't won on paper they are won on pitches!
Jordan Henderson does largely the same job that alonso did. He's not as good obviously. But the deep lying playmaker who recycles possession and regains it without being a midfield destroyer is exactly the same.
Then again a lonso was only world class once he left us according to most so, what are you gonna do.
The only world class players in this league are aguero, de gea, hazard, de Bruyne, and possibly kante and Costa.
It's not like any team has 6 or 7.
Kanye isn't a world class player he's very, very good at braking up play.
Sanchez??????

Kante would get into most if not all midfields in the world.
I personally would put sanchez alongside Costa. Not quite at the same level as hazard for example.
Wijnaldum is over-extending himself if he tries to get too far forward I think. He is not a goalscorer even though he got one against Man City. His performance dropped and will do if he thinks he can get goals. Stick to defensive midfield and creating IMO.
Klopp has them fit and confident for sure but as well as that most are just getting older and starting to come into their prime.
Henderson was good in 13/14 and many agree him missing the final three games may have cost us the league.
Coutinho has has year on year improvement.
Mane will likely hit double figures again.
Lallana is 27, Firmino 25, Can 23, Clyne 25, Hendo 26, Coutinho 24, Sturridge 27, Matip 25, Wij 26, Mane 24.
They're all good players capable of moments of quality on a regular basis.

Not for me. He could be our Dembele as he takes care of the ball. Not as strong physically or defensively (I think he is quite weak in the tackle but reads the game well enough) but better at getting in the box and the headed goal against City was where he was doing his best work for Newcastle by arriving late with a great spring. I think he has been trying to hard but looks like he's settling now. I like him.
Pretty sure wijnaldum played as a wide forward for Newcastle last year.
Got like 10+ goals. For Newcastle.

These same group of players were never thought of highly before, this is all based on 3-4 months of being at the top of the division.
Coutinho and Sturridge being obvious exceptions, Mane was a good player at Southampton and has come along nicely at Liverpool.
The rest before this season have never proved that they were great players. Liverpool have been consistently terrible for over 25 years now and many of the players that make up your team today were part of a terrible team. (That doesn't mean they won't become a great team)
That isn't to take away from the few good season you have had where you have challenged or won a major trophy (2005) I'm just pointing to the fact that these players haven't accomplished anything with the exception of playing good football for a short period of time.
Players who are in good form at the moment like Firminho and Lallana were never thought of as great and Milner had a reputation as an average player. Henderson might be appreciated by Liverpool fans but it's hard to believe that you think of him so highly when you had true quality in your midfield with Alonso, Gerrard and Masch. That's the quality I think supporters should boost about. When I see your midfield now ON PAPER it does look very average but what does it matter if you win things? Let's see....
See when you talk with such blatant hyperbole it's hard to take you seriously.
Liverpool have been far from a terrible team for 25 years. Always been within touching distance of the top apart from one year under Hodgson.
What's the most entertaining part of all of this is that man United currently have a midfield starring marouane fellaini. Glass houses and stones comes to mind.
It depends on the context... these are Liverpool's league positions since 1990.
2nd 6th 6th 8th 4th 3rd 4th 3rd 7th 4th 3rd 2nd 5th 4th 5th 3rd 3rd 4th 2nd 7th 6th 8th 7th 2nd 6th 8th
You finished outside the top four 12 times, outside the top two but above fourth 10 times and second only 4 times.
That's around 22 seasons out of 26 in which you haven't even mounted a real and proper title challenge.
These are terrible stats for a team that aspires to be great again just like United's last 3 seasons have been terrible for a side that aspires to be great again.
I fail to see how you have been within touching distance of the top apart from one season when you have finished outside the top 4 for almost half of those 26 seasons. Be realistic mate.
If you want to be held to a lower standard of an average team like Southampton who you are playing now then you have done very well.
p.s. our main midfield comprises of Carrick, Herrera and Pogba. Fellaini is usually on the bench, so not a star at all.
